![]() Finally got this little blueberry in the shop and Korb pulled the motor.. sat while we ordered parts, then got wrong parts...
we disassembled completely down to the crank. She ran out of oil.. #1 rod bearing was smashed pretty bad. The rest have slight scratching. Main bearings were pretty good. Hell, the cylinders are in great shape.. the problem lies in the crankshaft. Its about.0.5mm out of round on the #1 journal.. so, we decided to use what we think is a Ej25d block that I had out back in a shed. It only had 3 pistons in it. They are ej25d pistons. We removed them and installed the pistons out of the ej251 (which are in great shape) we used DNJ piston rings and honed the block. The reason why I think that the block might not be an EJ25d (even though it came out of a 98 forester with dual cam heads on it) is because we had none of the similar problems that others have encountered. Problems such as needing to figure out a 2nd bolt stud for the starter, needing to use 25d head gaskets, 25d pistons did not protrude past the deck as some have suggested. Got her back together and then the security system started acting up. So we disconnected the module and jumped the starter harness. Also jumped the 4-5 pins to control the locking mechanisms. Fired her up and she purred like she was brand new. We have to break the rings and the clutch in so I couldn't really get on it.. she has great power even though we can't yet push her. Still have some serious work to do. OEM carpet should be here on Monday. Wrx seats are way too high. So hes going to buy some corbeau fixed seats and we will fab up some rails. Steering wheel is going to be swapped with a wrx momo. There are a couple of dents that require some time. And now he wants to paint it.. I have constructed a couple pretty nice temporary paint booths in my time. For the rally car, dirt bikes, buggies, and car fenders.. so I'll take some pics. Here are some more. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ] |

![]() Ah yes, almost forgot.. the door panels are a other ongoing project. We pulled them off and took them into the upholstery shop. The guy wanted $400 per to replace the vinyl.. that's a lot of dough.. so we went over to Joanne's and found a matching vinyl that's almost exact. So far we have separated the upper lower and door handle. The backing stayed on the door panels. Joanne's has backed vinyl as well vinyl with no foam backing. $24.99 with a 60%off coupon.

![]() Thanks guys. So, we drove her again today. Korb drove it to school. I drove it home. Put 60 miles on her. No problems. Purred like a subie.
It was kinda funny his appreciation... he came in after test driving it with the biggest smile on his face and said "thanks dad I love this car! I was worried because we bought my first car for $400 and it ran. The interior was nice and I thought you were crazy to pay almost 3x as much for this... then we got it cleaned up and running and it is so awesome" it's nice to have someone who's excited to work out in the garage with.. if I can just get him to clean the shop a little more often... |

![]() That's stock front suspension. Except for the shock in the centre it's exactly like mine, even the "K6". Maybe adjustable strut?

![]() I figured that the top hat looked stock. I was wondering about the strut. Other stock rs cars have shallow caps that cover the nut. These seem to be aftermarket struts.. handles like dms40s, but they adjust on the bottoms.

![]() Kyb part number GC05 Yellow strut inserts. I assume they're first gen AGX. I can't find anything on them. Probably 15 years old..
I ran the newer AGX with king springs back in 2004 for 1 rally. It was a budget rally car.. yeah.. bent 3 of them.. I threw them away immediatly after that rally.. after wasting $500. Spent a thousand on some used dms 50's that were in excellent condition. Never looked back. Well, could be worse.. could be ebays.. lol. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() free image hosting Swapping the steering wheel was pretty easy. He had to cut the cruise control harness and butt connect the wiring to the pig tail from the wrx column. Other pics are pulling fender dents. He has about 2 hours into the one fender. It is looking great! |

Also, what kind of wheels and tires? That trashed little RS is looking more and more healthy! |

![]() Carpet in! OEM from Subaru. thanks again subiegal!
He's wiring the stereo in as I am typing this. Got a new shift knob shift boot, group n tranny mount and energy shift bushings on the way. Hes out of cash till the end of the month. I really don't know how much power shes making, sirbadass. Ej25d block with ej251 heads and pistons. (Not yet ported... he says he just wanted to put it back together...) Cold air intake Aftermarket unequal length header 165 is stock. Seems that the ej251 pistons are a little lower in the cylinders @TDC that would probably lower the compression ratio, but I have great power up to 6k rpm. Compared to my 06 forester which does not build power past 4k I'd say it's pretty close to 190-200hp. I have a wrx with a Ej205 and a cold air intake. its probably not quite there yet. (205 is in the shop now. Gutted up pipe, reworked hks downpipe, ported heads, Light weight flywheel, and accessport. So I don't think blueberry will catch the wrx anytime soon. Tires are Yokohama avid touring plus-s |

![]() What's the curb weight? Because if it's well below 3k, then you'll have similar power:weight to the BRZ, which revs great and likes to scoot when you know what you're doing.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sick.. but still managed to help him out a bit. We searched high and low for the wiring diagram for the stereo system. It has the premium sound package. We ended up with a couple of grey wires with red dots on them.. all the speakers work though.. accidently touched one of the grey wires to ground and blew out 3 fuses. Stereo, illumination, and dome/map lights. 1 under the hood, and the other 2 in the dash.. stereo is in and sounding great! Sub works. Need to U-P-G-R-A-A-A-D-E rear speakers. Which is also a pain in the arse. Can't just pop the dust covers off the rear deck and replace.. must remove back seat rests.. another day. As you.can see our first, failed attempt to upholster. At a glance, it's really nice.. but, cut too deep in one spot and too far out in a corner. Pulling it tight exposed a couple of undesirable creases as well as a couple of small cuts inside the groove. Also seems to me that the adhesive is not strong enough. Its 3m auto advanced stage 2. Going to need to find something stronger. Wasted $5 worth of vinyl and a couple hours.. new plan. More vinyl, stronger adhesive and remove center fabric.. this might have been a mistake, but only time will tell. Going g to eat some spaghetti, smoke a blunt watch a movie idiocracy and pass out. |

![]() We decided to tear out the center checkered fabric after our 2nd failed attempt. Personally, I like it all black. We spent $6 on PP polypropylene sticks at harbor freight. They sell packs with 3 different plastics inside. Looking at the inside of the door panels they are stamped with PP so we used the color coated green sticks. Also used a hot knife. It was very time consuming, but worth the savings. The plastic weld is incredibly strong. We are very confident about this repair.
Saved about $350 per door panel.. Curb weight? Still haven't weighed her. I'm sure it's near stock, except I think that the wrx seats have airbags inside of them. These seats are way too high mounted in the rs. They're coming out at least to modify the mounts. We are not short people.. |
