what Iím most disappointed about is I know longer see a place to order some harder to find gc parts. I had purchased some jdm tail lights for a more then reasonable price from them before. Would have bought all the other harder to find items while I could if I would have known...

Interesting, but looks like that's based in Houston. The nicest part about SGP for me was that I could pick up the parts from the dealership (which is about 2 miles from my house). At least Michael's accepts the Costco Auto 15% discount on parts and service now, so that's a plus.

Old news... Chaplin family wanted out of the business, so Michael's stepped in.

Biggest change is Michael's decided www.Subarugenuineparts.com didn't have large enough profit margins, so they canned the website and Jamie as well. They also reduced my parts discount...

Other than that it appears to be business as usual, but I'm only ever there for parts.

I wouldn't bother checking SGP anymore, Michael's is only holding onto the web address because SoA and others wanted it.

Jamie now works for a different dealer group located in Texas, so use that site instead.

Come in and ask for me (Jeff)

I work in the Parts Dept and worked SGP for Jamie. She showed me the ropes with Subaru Parts Diagrams!

You guys still have a Subaru Enthusiast at Bellevue Subaru!

Jeff - are you guys charging matrix pricing now?

I won't spend a dime at Hanson in Olympia because they charge matrix pricing and because ownership/management kept coming up with new and improved ways to screw the employees before I finally quit, culminating with refusing to cash out accrued vacation pay.

To be totally transparent, I'm mostly asking for morbid curiosity. I've got no plans on driving through the Seattle area just to buy parts. I'll either order from Jamie or rockauto, or one of a few other shops.

I'm mainly on back counter but you'll find me on front counter every now and then.

You can always ask for me and I'll get you taken care of. I know how hard it is to work with the 3 old guys.

I'll take that as a yes to matrix pricing.

Hard pass.

Looks like matrix pricing = complete rip off

Called Michael's today to see if they had turbo-to-downpipe hardware in stock. Was quoted $16.42 each for the bolts and $3.29 each for the nuts. I can get the bolts for $8.46 and nuts for $1.56 each from Eastside Subaru through their online store. Even after 15% off at Michael's with the Costco discount that's completely ridiculous. Total price with tax at Michael's would be $46.83; at Eastside it would be $27.19.

I was only calling because my order of the same parts from subarupartsource.com was taking a really long time to ship (showed as "Ready to Ship" for almost a week, and my message inquiring about the delay went unanswered). Finally shipped today after my second email (also unanswered). Their prices are good, but expect poor communication and long turnaround times.

Matrix pricing is ripping the customer off.

For example
Dealer cost $0.60
MSRP $1.00
Matrix $2.00

It can get crazy.

A local rally driver broke his STi headlight, and went in to the dealership here in town who shall remain nameless because they suck. He was quoted about $1400 for the headlight. MSRP for that light is about $840. A quick search online I found one dealer selling them for $730. Cost is in the $6xx range. He could have gone to their online parts website and bought it for the $7xx amount.

Matrix used to be more relevant - dealership has to stock a lot of inventory, and that ties up their money, they have to pay tax on inventory, etc., so they charge a premium to make sure they're not losing money. But these days, dealers don't keep more in inventory than they absolutely have to - most stuff that doesn't get sold several times a week is not kept in stock, it's ordered on demand, and Subaru's distribution system is taking up the expense of carrying the parts.

Now matrix pricing is a tool that dealers use for maximizing profit, so the parts managers, general managers, and dealer principals can all afford that hot rod, AMG, second house, boat, etc.

Meanwhile, they pay the parts counter guys barely over minimum wage, they screw with the technician and service advisor pay plans to bend them over.

That dealership that shall remain nameless came out a while back, before I quit, and changed the employee manual to reflect that training pay would be at 80% of our hourly rate, vacation and holiday pay at 70%. Training is all out of town, drive time is unpaid, and class time is only paid for the published duration of the class, less lunch. They also decided they're not going to pay people for the accrued vacation time if they quit (I lost a week's pay) or get fired (one of the advisors lost a couple weeks pay).

I'll drive to Tacoma/Longview/Seattle before I spend any money here.

Why are you protecting the guilty?! Drag their ass through the mud, or PM me and I'll do it myself. Don't let a fellow enthusiast get ripped off! If enough people stop buying from that dealer, maybe they'll think twice about matrix pricing.

On a related sidenote, it seems like there may have been a shakeup at www.subarupartssource.com. Not sure if it's public yet, but I'm sure it will come out eventually.

I worked there, and when I left every single tech was looking for work elsewhere. After I left, they decided to start paying better, but until the GM and ownership have major philosophical awakenings, they'll still try to screw over the employees and customers, IMHO.

While I want the business to fold, there are still some good folks working there who can't help what management does.

And as to the other thing, yeah I'm not saying anything at this time.

So two days later my order from subarupartsource.com that had supposedly shipped still hasn't moved past the "Label Created" stage. Getting the distinct impression that I'm getting dicked around. Wish I could just cancel the order and get the parts locally so that I can salvage the long weekend and get some work done.

Well it's public on FB now, Jamie (Subiegal) left www.subarupartsource.com. You can find her post on FB, but it sounds like I'll be shopping at www.subarupartsdeal.com going forward (Right after I placed a $500+ order at Gillman ...)

CosmoTheCat, PMing you...

Odds are pretty good that your order hasn't shipped, so you could probably cancel it.

UPS says they received the package yesterday, so it looks like itís actually on its way. Wonít be here until next week though. Turns out that it doesnít matter since the exhaust shop that was supposed to weld in the second O2 bung into my downpipe called me yesterday (when it was supposed to be ready) and told me they couldnít do it. Just not in the cards, I guess.

Update: received my shipment and all's good. Also found a shop to weld in my wideband bung for a reasonable price (Fordahl Motorsports in Bellevue, $50 + tax). The two local subie performance shops I called quoted me $110 and $150 respectively.

Was looking everywhere online and got quotes from all dealerships from Tacoma to Seattle. Hanson Subaru had the best prices out of any of them. Secret is to purchase them online NOT at the counter. 12 wrx bumper cover $280 plus everywhere else,Hanson's $200. Just buy the part on there website and use the will call local pickup option at checkout.

Ask them to price match your online price. All Dealers get parts at the same cost from SOA. They won't say no to an easy sale even if it's at thin margins.
