![]() I wouldnt want to do it either, the fines are very steep and not only does the tech get fined but the shop get fined and looses its license... not really worth it in my opinion. not to mention there could be jail time for defrauding the state

![]() On Facebook I kept seeing one guy advertising $180 smog pass or don't pay for cars 1999 and older. I tried hitting him up, he said he could do my 2001 for $230 but was slow to get it going. So I tried hitting up a guy that was in the 1st guys post comments saying he had a guy and to hit him up. So desperate, I messaged him and he wants $360 non negotiable because that's his friends price. Seemed sketchy so now I'm looking for an veteran member with a hook up lol. Found some catalytic converter on amazon for about $250. Might go that route. I read tuners usually have a guys , but I don't think they'd just give me their hook up. Probably gotta get a tune and then they might refer me. I guess I can just try asking but I doubt it

![]() Also keep reading here. There's some discussion about the checking for tuned ECUs. There isn't any hookup that can help you with that. I just hope going back to stock on an AP is sufficient.

![]() ![]() I'm sure they want the money but the guy I was talking to from the 370z forum says there more complex info being read now. So he said he has a dmv friend that hooks it up for a hefty price, but he wouldn't tell me the price. He wanted my info 1st so I backed out of that option lol. My car has been sitting since summer, almost a year now. I miss driving it, and I'm getting tired of driving a minivan daily. I think my testosterone went down and my estrogen levels went up driving this thing for so long. Looks down ![]() ![]() |

![]() situation? 1) I could go back to stock, pass and reinstall everything.(pita with working 50-60 hours a week and a family and living with in laws lol) 2) go back to stock and sell all the turbo bits. Drive around stock, until I can do a proper bar'd swap 3) keep searching for sketchy person to pass me and have to do it again in 2 years lol I'm kind of leaning towards option 2 lol. Also it's either $500 shipped for new cat section or would u guys recommend buying new say magnaflow carb legal cats and having a custom cat section made? Might be about the same price in the end but have better quality cats than the amazon Bosal cat section? Last edited by MCV; 04-27-2020 at 03:29 PM. |

![]() Carb changed the machines in November 2019 so it's almost impossible to do a 01'+. If the visual doesn't get you the live data feed back directly to carb will. They are looking for all Pids in the ECU and monitoring the ranges of the data supplied back to them while the car is running. They did it to cut down on people getting around the system.

![]() Maybe it didn't kicked in, in 2020 so you were still good. Which makes me kick myself in the ass because I should have hit my guy up before 2020. He probably could have still helped me out. I turbo'd my ej251 and installed a cxracing fmic, it won't pass visual lol. I tried hitting up some local tuners, they say they don't know anyone lol.
I was thinking of purchasing 2 of these and having a shop weld me up a cat section https://www.amazon.com/MagnaFlow-334016-Universal-Catalytic-Converter/dp/B00BF2WX8Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=carb+catalytic+co nverter&qid=1587903434&sprefix=carb+cata&sr=8-9#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div |

![]() Honestly with what's going on, you have a better chance to find a shop now then you did in January. Sadly I am sure a lot of these places are hurting for money / at home and can use the extra on top of a regular smog. So will you find someone? Probably. Are the feds a little pre-occupied right now? Yes.
You got this homie. |

![]() This whole thread makes me laugh cause it validates a concern I've had for so long about buying modified cars (particularly Subaru's since I love Subaru) on the used car market in CA. I see people every day trying to sell WRXs and STIs with countless mods and showing dyno sheets of their cars putting down 400 hp etc. I respect it but then they are asking for $25k + (sometimes much much more) on a 10+ year old or more car that needs major labor put into it just for it to be able to pass a smog check. "130k on chassis but only 5k on new build!!"
I wish you guys luck on finding a solution to your issues, but we all know the cost of modding our cars in the great state of CA. |
