I think you'd be fine tightening the upper portion as tight as you can with a wrench, the lower side I torqued mine but cannot remember what the torque spec was.

Those who are knowledgeable, would there be any issues to running winter tires that are 225/60-16 on our cars? seems like they might be a little too big for our cars but I have no clue

225 is wayyyyy too wide for a 3000 pound car in snow. You want to dig in, not float on top of the snow.

That's what I was thinking too, narrower is better in the snow

I'm running 205 60 16's for winters, sorry not sure if the additional width & height would work.

I just tightened mine down as much as I could when the car was up on jack stands, using a hand wrench/sockets. I can't get that much leverage which is why.

For snow, you want narrower tires. But.. You might run into issues of either hitting the spring perch, or even rubbing the fender liner under load.

I've got around 475 before could probably hit 500 but don't want to risk running out.

Wow, nice. That's one of the best I've seen compared to the data that's posted on Fuelly.

Hey guys, have a 2015 impreza sport Canadian version and I recently had my drivers side mirror smashed to bits by an awesome cyclist that was texting and pedaling. I checked it out on Amazon and surprisingly enough they have the mirrors in stock both heated and non heated versions, none heated is actually more expensive for some reason. Anyone know if the heated version is plug and play?

How far do peoples' parking brakes pull up before they're pretty much at maximum pressure? In a Crosstrek limited I rode in once, the hand brake only goes up maybe 4 inches, like 1/3 of the way to 90º. Mine goes maybe 1/2 the way (doesn't sound like much but the tip of the handle is like twice as high)

I'd say about 45 degrees on mine as well.

You probably need it adjusted. Over time the components wear (either the pads, or cable, depending on the design, not sure about the Impreza).

Network problems at work so I'm on break.

Not so much the angle or height but the normal operation of the parking brake is 7 to 8 notches. I can still push my car up to the 5th notch but the 7th one holds it tight. New brake shoes are needed if your car moves past the 8th notch.

Doubt new shoes are needed considering I've never used them while moving before. What I think you mean is I need to adjust them near the brakes with the star adjuster thingy.

@CLL, what kind of hill are you parking on when you say 8 notches? My brake is about half engaged at 8 notches. Enough to keep it from rolling on mostly flat ground... but I live on an extremely steep hill.

Sounds like you need to adjust your parking brake cable underneath the parking brake cover. It's a mechanical system so the cable stretches over time.

You do know our parking brake is not actuated by the caliper right? We have a hydraulic and mechanical system. Hydraulic for the main brakes. Mechanical drum style brakes for our parking brake. So if you need to replace your parking brake pads, you're either driving with your parking brake up, or you're trying to be the next ken block.

When I park on a incline, I do give the parking brake a little extra pull but I've never tested it to see if it moves. I set the parking brake and then put the car in park.

To say the brake is half engaged after the 8th notch, how many more notches can you go? On flat ground, mine holds at 8th notch and doesn't move if I put it in Drive (back end drops). If I rev the engine to almost 1500 RPM in Drive, it starts to move. The 9th notch holds it until almost 2000 RPM before it starts to move. So on a hill, I think it will hold but I will always be in Park of course.

Mine doesn't work but because I was being the next ken block... the 30 minutes of fun was well worth the broken control arm and worn out hand brake

Yes, I know. Mechanical drum style brakes = brake shoes not pads.

How'd you destroy the control arm? Hit a curb or just from sliding on dry pavement?

So on the 8th click the parking brake is engaged enough to keep me from rolling around on a relatively flat parking spot (of course none of them ever are, you'll usually roll quite a bit if you let go). But the 12th/13th click are needed to hold it firmly on a really freakin steep hill

Wow, 13! Its a firm pull just to get my 9th notch. If you have to do that everyday, your cable is going to be stretched to hell. It probably already is. Is there any way you can park across the grade w/o rolling over? (i.e East-West instead of North-South)
