you should be able to unscrew a few 10mm bolts to pull the drvr side timing cover off and do a quick once over..

The cam gear bolts are holding me back right now. I'm gonna go and see if I can find a 1/2-3/8 adapter quick so I can use my impact to get them loose

I did that while it was in the car and it was still in spec. If I move the flywheel slightly I can hear and feel something loose inside the block

That sound is exactly what my NA build sounded like. Mine was due to me using the wrong HG (a tiny bit too thin) & the piston tops crashing into the heads.
I had quite a few listen to it, but while everyone had guesses, piston top crash was not one of them.

Curious what you find out. Hope it's minor (other than pulling the engine yet again.....)

The play I could feel in the rotating assembly was the crank sprocket shifting back and forth on the crankshaft. For the drivers side head off and everything looks normal so far. I'm going to pop those two pistons out tmr after work and see what the wrist pins look like

You could take the oil pan off and wiggle the rod if you suspect a bad rod bearing. Good luck let us know how you make out.

There shouldn't be any play at all.... Maybe you found the cause right there.

Yup take off the oil pan and have a friend hold a breaker bar with a 22mm socket on the crank bolt while you examine the rod's closely have him wiggle it back and forth. Good luck Sr.

I never checked wrist pin clearances, everything was new so I didn't think I'd have any issues. Now to see if JE will sell me one piston and if I can press a new bushing into the connecting rod

I'd pull that whole engine down and inspect it. Main bearings and all.

Hey you used my battery hook trick

That's ****ty man Look's like an oiling issue from the rod. How's the rod bearings look on the cylinders with the scored pin's?

Do you know bearing clearance? Who built this engine? Was oil pump packed for start up? Look's like it happened on start up.

BUT WHAT DO I KNOW LOL
