Default Colin McRae Rally 2.0 - sideways sliding through the bargain bin

Even people that don't have the best computer systems can still have fun on their pcs. Case in point: Colin McRae Rally 2.0... I found this gem in the bargain bin in EBGames, at the South Mall in Emmaus PA.

I was hesitant - I even thought about the idea of returning it to dive for some other cheap games. That was before I installed it onto my computer.

HEFTY full install at 610mb... but it's worth it. With hard drive space plentiful, most pcs today pack at least a 20gb hard drive to start, don't they? For the rest of us, a little sacrifice goes a long way.

Suffice it to say I'd played plenty of rally games before. Colin 2.0 is different. Did you bang up your car on the last stage? Guess what: you'll have to choose what you want to fix, because you may not be able to fix everything with the 60 minutes you get at each service area. All of a sudden, a new sense of purposeful driving is added to the mix.

You genuinely want to raise your game, for example, to protect your spoiler, which is now flapping in the wind, after a chance encounter with a rock and two trees on the sidelines. My computer had a few graphical hiccups dealing with the detail (P2 333 mhz with ATI Rage 128 Pro 16MB and a Voodoo2 12MB - don't think I've used the latter so far), but nothing that crippled the entire experience. I chalk all the experience up to first time rallying "for keeps".

Arcade mode seems decent so far, but the real star is going to be the championship rally around the world. I also liked the replay - it looked very nice, capturing a few choice angles on some of the tracks. I have not played it long enough to figure how realistic the physics are, but I've already rolled a rally car, and there ARE traction differences across different road surfaces.

Colin McRae Rally was currently selling at EBGames in the South Mall for $9.99 when I bought it. Feedback? Opinions? Pleasantly surprised by this title, and a very nice re-introduction into the world of rallying. Yeah - it's nothing like Mobil 1 Rally Championship or Gran Turismo 3 A-spec in the graphics department, but it holds its own well enough. Big ups to Codemasters for an enjoyable rally experience so far!

i love cmr2! i bought the ms force feedback wheel when i got the game and was totally blown away! every car has a different feel to it. racing on pavement is hardcore, you really get a sense of speed and it's pretty dramatic they way you throw the steering wheel around and dance the car on the edge of adhesion.

I got Collin McRae Rally 3. A whopping 4GB install (3 Cd's). I finished a whole season of WRC and won it once hehe. Too bad the career path sticks you with a Ford Focus (Colin's team). Oh well, at least the sponsers of WRC were kind enough to reward me with a Evo 7 V2 and a WRX 22B hehe. Mind you the whole time on the circuit I was chasing the Subaru team lol. Excellent game

Recreation of the Stages was dead on! I remember going "hey! I remember this tree stump from the rally videos I saw!" lol. Very very accurate courses and car physics.

Heres some pics

I play CMR2 almost every day.. still beating my way through UK trying to take first in hard.

whee!

I've got CMR3.. but it chugs a bit on my computer, so I've been avoiding playing it because it's not as smooth as I would like it to be.
I need a new vid card.
