I've bought tons of Yakima accessories on eBay. Used stuff is generally in really good shape because this stuff is pretty tough. Everything is pretty much backwards compatible forever - the snowboard holder I bought recently was new sealed in box from 1993.

I have nothing on the roof now. Wrx doesn't come with factory rails or crossbars. Wanted to know if I need roof rails before getting cross bars, or just get towers? It looks like there's slot to mount something up there. And I plan in getting the extension since it's a hatch. Thanks for the info tho!

Ya you can just get a set of crossbars with towers, it mounts right up there pretty easy. If you go with the loadwarrior basket I'd recommend either round or factory/aerodynamic bars just for the fact that whatever you want to mount on the roof you can mount on either your bars or the basket.

I'm getting the factory crossbar set for my 2014 sedan and was wondering if there is any aftermarket attachments for carrying surfboards with the factory rack ? If so what brand ? I didn't see anything that Subaru offered as far as surfboard attachments. Thanks for the help.

Made for aero bars, which is what the Subaru racks are. Should be fine.

Anyone else disappointed with the stiffness of Subaru aero bars and had a go at making them worth a **** for hauling heavier bikes?

I ran a dowel through the aluminum channel for the front bar. It might have stiffened it a little but my 29er isn't as heavy as a dh if that's what you're talking about.

Anyone have a close up of the whispbar or thule feet on the roof? That's one area I don't like with my oem bars. I'd like something that contacts the paint less so I'm looking at whispbar or Thule aeroblades.

Most of the pictures I've found still show the pad on the paint. The Thule mounts look a bit better but I don't have any local shops to do a test fit.

Thanks!

Actually looking at that picture i realized i adjusted the feet when i got my roof wrapped so that they arent touching the inner part of the roof at all, most of it is on the black gutter trim with some overhang onto the outer part towards the doors now. But if it really bothers you that much you should just get some clear vinyl to lay down underneath the feet.

Hey specter.

Thanks for the picture! Do the rubber feet contour between the roof and gutter trim? I don't mind using 3m under the mounts again but I'd like to keep it to a minimum so if I take the rack off it doesn't look odd. Are the bars pretty sturdy? My OEM ones flex quite a bit with just one bike mounted.

How long have you had them installed, any complaints?

Here ya go, let me know if you need any other angles. I custom cut some clear bra to protect paint, but these feet really don't take up much room.

No problem, not sure what you mean about the feet contouring tho. I can get a better picture for you tomorrow. When i took the bars off to wrap the roof there were no visible marks from the feet and they had been on for roughly 4-5 months with the snowboard carriers on for 3 and my loadwarrior basket on for about 1. And yes they are very sturdy, I had a cooler full of beer/water/food, a backpack, and an empty propane tank in the basket last week and didnt notice any flex in the bars. Also if wind noise is a factor for you these are incedibly quiet.

This is from the aforementioned trip to the camp last week.

The rain gutter is lower than the roof so the mounts have to form to that. Some others, Thule and OEM are hard plastic that are molded to contour around the roof lip. Your other picture looks like the foot for the whispbars is soft.

Thanks again for the help.

Ok ya, they are a soft rubber so when the bars are tightened onto the roof the feet mould themselves into shape

Gotcha. That's what I figured but it's hard to tell from pictures and I can't find anyone local with that setup.
