... i wouldn't knock Subaru just yet.. defects happen that make it through quality, in literally anything you can name.
I would for sure base my future decisions with them on the outcome of this and on how it is handled before a resolution. (im not exactly behind subaru as i got ****ed by them on a factory defect, but caught out of warranty and they would not even help me out with the labor to find the problem.)

May i ask, what was the reason for the OTS map at such a low mileage if all you did was a cat back?

I would say the factory throttle mapping and rev hang are outright dangerous and require some sort of midas touch to NOT hit someone around you or get hit, while in bumper to bumper traffic. The lurching, jumpy nature got me out of the stock tune as soon as I was able to. Also that factory tune has a really dumb boost surge right when an engine could potentially go into LSPI as well as when torque is at a peak down low, which again.. not good.

That said, I hope things work out for you. Anytime I hear the words "Warranty void" it makes me infuriated. Did the mod I made CAUSE the failure and you can prove this beyond doubt? No? Then ****, follow the laws of this nation, and fix the stupid thing. I ran into this with Ford, and won't buy another one.

Rev limit can also be hit with a mis-shift, but it wouldn't be under load so *probably* wouldn't be a killer unless it was extreme (5th to 2nd at high rpm maybe?) There's no power up top till mods anyway.

Yes get everything in writing. I learned my lesson with Ford

Good luck on this!

If you missed a shift (money shift) like 4th to 3rd and was pushing hard you could absolutely damage the engine. If you redlined 4th and hit 3rd instead of 5th, 7100 would suggest that s what happened.

I am still unsure if they can read past entries into the ECU even after re set. Depends on who you ask . Even the Cobb sales people won t give me a direct answer.

Assuming they have evidence of a mechanical over-rev (you really think a dealer would make that up?), I'm not sure why we think he's going to have much luck with SOA.

He should be able to get reimbursed for the tear-down perhaps, as the tear down would have nothing to do with pulling the peak RPM number off the ECU.

All that aside...he's admitted to having a tune on it.

So...yeah...

My .02 is that once you modify the ECM anything bad motor related is on you. Stage 0 is still COBB code not what the manufacturer supplied the car with. Why would Subaru be responsible for an engine that was being told how to behave by a program other than their own? If they break it they cover it, and I’m sure they do sometimes. But if they find code other than theirs in the brain of your car they shouldn’t be responsible anymore, and I’d imagine that is what they are looking for. And you ask about a possible bs excuse, in reality there is no excuse just the fact. Read page 7 of your owners manual. It would be a different story if you came here and said you had a stock car and they were jacking you around, but it wasn’t.

What exactly happened when it blew? Cruising on highway? Accelerating? Downshift?

What oil were you running? What was last time you checked it? Was it low?

Also you said 2500 at 40. What gear were you in?
