For those who have done the reflective yellow high beams. How useful are the high beams after you sprayed them?

I want to know if the stained glass yellow is more reflective than the metal cast yellow

There's a comment in here from Overland and many other people saying it's still pretty good. I think the numbers were somewhere around 80% reflectivity or so.

What I want to know is what has better reflectivity, the metalcast yellow or the stained glass yellow

Has anyone done their taillights? Did my headlights, tail lights, and backup lights. Since you have to break the factory plastic weld on the tail and backup lens all I could do was use the windshield mastic to "glue" them back together. It worked great until the hot Georgia summer kicked in, heated up the mastic and one of my back up lenses fell off while I was driving. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of any epoxy or anything that will permanently bond and wont out gas and cloud the lens like superglue does?

I'm sure JB Weld makes a plastic epoxy bond that will work for the tail lights. They make high-heat epoxys (400+ degrees) for auto stuff, though it cures grey. I'm sure you can find something from them or Bondo though.

I also like using Lexel for random seal waterproofing (light bars/front headlight housings), works friggin spectacular.

Do you plan on keeping the DRL/HB reflector red? The red has basically rendered my high beams useless.

In this thread he said 90 are a little bigger and 80 are a little too small. I believe he went with 90 and many others are doing the same

I remember reading somewhere about the best halogen bulbs us non-hid owners can get. Can anybody name that special bulb? Man, I can't remember the name. >.<

I get that, I read through every single page making sure I was making the right decision. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, need to order the halos. I decided on stained glass yellow high beams, satin black housing and reflector, smoke turn signal and blue passive demon eye. Have a silver 2012 STi

So.... I'm thinking (with my all chrome 08 headlights) just simply chrome wrapping the orange reflector and putting some tsx lease in.

Has anyone done the wrapping?

Default 08+ WRX/STI Headlight Split | DIY Painting | Baking

If anybody's interested ive got a set of oem sti projectors that have custom curved cut off shields and tsxr lenses. Plus a set of oem bulbs, ballasts, and clear side reflectors. I also have hardware and spare parts from 2 headlights. I had been in the process of building my dream headlights for my impreza when life caught up and i ended up being too busy to finish. I bought a wrx recently and sold the impreza. I had the projectors tuned by a guy on hidplanet and output is sweet. I havent had time to put up a listing but wanted to throw this out there for you guys. I can take pictures of everything. I even have output shots of the projectors from when i first got them back. I set them up on my benchtop and tested them out.
Keep in mind these are iphone 6 photos, they dont do them justice at all... that yellow cutoff below each one is the stock halogen light output in comparison...

Bump for Q&A!

Ok peeps, my idea is to open up these all chrome 08 headlights of mine and remove the orange turn signal reflector, chrome wrap it, and put it all back together.

I'm concerned about heat and I know that the turn signals are not on all of the time like the beams but it is in close proximity. Anyone know if this is a bad idea, having a wrapped reflector inside of the headlight housing? I think a FULL chrome headlight will look sweeeeet. I'll most likely do the TSX lense swap as well, regardless of having only halogens.

Here are a few customer headlights that I have done as reference, Unfortunately I am no longer accepting lights for modifications.

Do I need to remove the old butyl or just add more on top of the existing? I ordered some of this just in case. http://amzn.to/2A3NgCb

Not a lot of action here but I'll give it a shot I guess. I have done retrofits before so I am looking for advice on Subaru lights. I have a 2011 Sti and am baking, painting, and adding a couple custom touches to make them stand out a bit. Currently the lights appear to have a slight fog/ haze on the inside of them. On some ford lights I've done in the past you could NOT touch the inside of the lense AT ALL. They had zero scratch protection on the inside . And I mean if you had a spot of dust and wiped it it left scratches. I've never seen plastic scratch so easily. I used Revere osmosis water to flush them and dry compresses air to blow them dry. There is to much haze to do that on these lights I have a feeling. How sensitive are the Subaru lights. Someone along the way has had to encounter this issue. Just looking for an experienced point of view on how to tackle this. These are adjustable Sti projectors so I'd rather not mess them up as there not cheap!!

It's been discussed before in this thread. The inside is the same as those Ford lights you talked about. It's been recommended to get a new housing instead.

Default Good job!

Amazing write up man. Would love to do this if I could afford to make a mistake but at this moment, if I was to mess them up, I'd be out of lights.

For sure, the inside has zero protection and will scratch if you look at it the wrong way. I have had success using a new 300gsm microfiber cloth that was saturated with mild dish soap and warm water. The super sudsy mixture barley touching the inside and lightly move around the inside lens and rinse. Using compressed air to dry.

There is a film or haze on the inside of the lens. I have narrowed it down to something in the projector (most likely the lens housing) that is off gassing or burning.

It does come off with ease and proper care. But like the Ford, you have to lubricate and be gentle in order to not scratch.

Cheers!

Ok thanks for the responses. I think I'm just going to let it go for now. It doesn't seem as bad now that I've been stressing over the fix! If I decide I can't live with it i will order some knock offs and used those lenses .
