Reverse Lights Don't Work
I'm having a problem. I recently installed my Kartboy shifter in my 06 STi and noticed that after a while my reverse lights stop activating when shifting it into reverse. To activating them I have to practically push it into 6th (so I just back up without lights often).
Anyway, if anyone knows what I should do about this, please let me know.

As I stated before the lights do work at a very specific point, but it is close to when I would have to pop in in neutral that it's just not a good idea.
ANYONE know what's wrong here? |

well my guess is that there is a sensor in the trans that will turn your reverse lights on when you put the shifter into reverse, and somehow the design of the shifter doesn't quite match oem. i think there's probably nothing you can do about it aside from switching back to stock.

i had the same issue (minus the kartboy)
you need to replace the reverse light sensor... it's under the car on the tranny you should be good after that |

Holy thread resurrection Batman!
My girlfriend owns a 2005 STI and I was hoping someone could help me out. Her reverse lights have stopped working. We've checked bulbs, fuse, etc. Pretty sure its the switch, as playing with the shifter would turn the lights on. My question is, can the switch be changed without removing the transmission (6sp)? The workshop manual seems to state that the entire transmission needs to be removed just to replace the switch. If anyone has any tips or knows for sure how to replace this switch I'd appreciate it! |

Switch (purchase at any dealership) is connected to part of the wiring harness on the transmission.
You may be able to access it without completely dropping the trans, but you will likely have to at least remove the transmission crossmember. If you remove the x-member and still cannot access it then yes, you will probably have to drop the trans a bit to gain access. I swapped out my Neutral pos. switch without dropping the x-member or the transmission.... I've not yet had to swap out the back up switch so I am not 100% sure what you're options are going to be. |

Thanks for the reply, I think I'll try getting under the car this weekend to see if I can reach the switch. Was hoping it would be clearly accessible, but I guess it's worth a look.
Cheers! |

Can anyone verify that changing the switch fixed this issue?
