Subscribed for the part# of the glue. I could use something at an autopart store but fear I will not be able to seperate the lights again if needed.

Does anyone know the part number for the chrome shroud inside the headlamp housing (the piece that is painted black in the OP)? I have searched fredbeans but it seems only the entire headlamp assembly is available. Or maybe someone has a parts list drawing for the head lamp itself?

I would be curious to see how much you killed your high beam output by coating your reflectors with that paint. You claim it's not much but I find that very hard to believe.

Did mine today, I decided to keep the reflectors chrome for now and didn't paint the orange plastic one either. Just went to the 2011 style like my old hatch.

I've had my DRL's disconnected for a while but I've used my high beams for an extended period on a long road trip without an issue to the paint. The metal cast is rated to hold up to 500 degrees so I would think that a few other things would melt before the paint burns.

Damn that looks so sexy! Great write up and thanks for answering everyones questions without getting aggrevated, not many people can do that as well as you have.
I soooooo want to do this but I am really worried about hurting my high beam output as I do a lot of night driving. Buuuut it looks so good I just may say screw it and do it anyway lol |

Be cautious with the gloss black though, you might find it to be to shiny for a headlight housing. The satin seems to match the OEM finish of the grill and other plastic pieces on the car. Gloss will adhere well but might stand out too much inside a reflective housing. Good luck with the project and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them on here. |

Stupid question but before I go out and buy plastic specific paint. Do you think I could use Duplicolor black caliper paint since its durable and good up to 500 degrees?
Also where do you buy the Dupli-color metal cast smoke/shadow all I can find at my local auto parts stores are purple, blue and red eww. Last edited by Slow Scoobie; 06-27-2013 at 02:48 PM. |

Gloss will make your headlights look like a cheap plastic imitation. IMHO

Ill post pictures tomorrow but yea I agree now. I started painting them with the caliper paint but when it dried it was very weird it was glossy it some spots and flat in others. In the end I just used a flat black grille paint. Damn they look good...

Damn, they came out good!
No worries on the pictures, the headlights are incredibly hard to photograph correctly. Nice job! |
