Might as well, since your baby has been reborn!

Nah, unless you are using a foam type filter it should not make a difference. Did they plug your MAF sensor back in? I would check that because it has to be unplugged to do a filter change. They may have forgot.

I did my plugs at the same time as this job. Was not as hard as I thought. You need a variety of extensions and a universal joint extension to really do it. You have to take out the battery and air box.

As a hint, for the driver side rear plug- unbolt the coil, rotate around and wiggle up. To remove the plug, slip spark plug socket on plug, then put u joint on socket, then put 9 inch extension on that. That let's you get to the plug and wrench out. The first time I did it I stuck the plug and a 3 inch on but couldn't get either back of. Wound up breaking them apart with a pry bar and wrench. That was annoying.

yes but also hold the brake until the brake light fade away it will get rid of residual charge in the system and reset the ecu just pulling the negative cable won't do (unless you let it off like 24 hours i think, not sure)

Okay sweet! Yeah I had done some research after I had asked that question and I was seeing the same info as what you had just given me. (Along with a bunch of other inputs saying that any Subaru's, and other vehicles, newer than '00 cannot get their ECU's reset with that technique and that you need a special OBD II cable to reset your ECU.) Regardless, I tried the battery thing anyway and it seemed to work like a charm! I did one small difference and put the Vishnu technique "twist" in there. You guys have any input on that?

I started having issue again. I found this, the gasket was probably not seated correctly...

The worse is that I had to put it back since I dont have a spare.

Oh man! Hopefully that chunk is not sitting in your intake somewhere! Yeah maybe that one section just wasn't in the groove far enough. Hopefully its a quick fix man!

Is the burn part of the gasket on top (then there was probably a small piece off old gasket in the groove) if it,s on the bottom where is touche the tgv, it could be a scratch on it. Twisted gasket is also a posibility

Unhappy

FML...

I tackled this gasket replacement today. It just about killed me. Nothing went right.

So my problems were not just limited to the gaskets... turns out 4 of the bolts holding the intake manifold in place were broken off. Due to the already cramped working conditions I was not able to extract the busted stubs. So, the new gaskets are in and that will have to do it.

The Subaru engine likes to eat things that get dropped in it. 3 screws were dropped, 2 never found. When reconnecting the intercooler the 3" hose clamp popped off and I spent 20 minutes searching for it. How does a 3" clamp disappear in there?!?!

Now I know why mechanics are pissed off all the time.

This is definitely a two person job. My friend and I did this and new spark plugs on my '08 WRX, yesterday.

There was a lot of blow-by on the bottom of the gaskets. The stock ones don't even go past the surface of the IM.

my 2 feet screwdriver was my friend!

up to 17 boost now without knock, but the td04 out of breath at higher rpm... time for a new turbo i guess... (i like the car like that, i won't spend another dime on it) sure i'm not the only one that said that to himself at one point

I was quoted 400 by the dealer. I did it myself instead but in retrospect I could have afforded it and wish I did. I had a bolt break and a couple gaskets were a major pain.
I recommend checking with several dealers for the best price.

My 08 WRX is having this rough idol issue and especially now since its getting alot colder out, so I need to go to Subaru and just tell them that I need my gaskets replaced? intake manifold gaskets correct? anyone paid for these and not had it covered under warranty? and also if you dont mind me asking how much was it?

I first checked it myself via engine codes. Once I determined I had an identifiable problem, then I took it to the dealer. It took them a half hour to figure it out. They wanted 400 for it and I wish I had let them do it.

I got the torque app for my phone and a Bluetooth code reader from amazon. You can see pending codes and keep track of all the vitals if you know what you are looking for. You can try lots of stuff to figure it out on your own, but I like to take it to the dealer, let them tell me what's wrong, then take it home and see if I can verify it and maybe fix it myself. I'm at least a little handy with a wrench but not that great of a troubleshooter on newer engines. I never fully trust a dealer to tell me the truth, but they do usually have a better idea about what's going on with the cars they work with daily.

Having the same issue with my 08 WRX and it is a little annoying. Tried letting the car warm up for 15min or longer and it seems to be fine when i do that. But, if i start it up and let it sit for a couple min and then move it out of the garage, it will still feel like it will stall out even when it warms up to half temp. Dealer had it for 2 days and they said there was no air leaks, not running lean and no codes. Hesitant on replacing the O-rings since the car is under warranty. Need some help to decide what the issue is.

No mods (that i know of). Someone suggested checking the MAF. Wouldn't it run like that all the time if it was the MAF?

Sounds like you have the problem to me. The o rings that they used on the 08s are about 1/2 the thickness of the updated ones.

I haven't checked for the vacuum leak yet but I have all the symptoms; 08 WRX built in fall of 07, misfire codes (twice,) rough idle when cold. I'm calling the dealer tomorrow and thinking of buying the gaskets separately so they put in the ones that I want. I'm tempted to try this myself but can't afford to have something mess up and have the car out of commission for while. I'm a tuned stage two. I'll report back once the job is done.

Have to say that now that I've read this thread I'll try and stay out of boost until fixed. I'm just wondering if I could have damaged anything by running lean previously?
