We managed to make piping on a friend's car without removing the AC. Just running the alternator as low as possible, and squeezing between there with a tube worked ok. The alternator sat against the underside of the hose on the TB, and the pipe sat about a finger thickness from the hood.

The tape is holding together the sections that are to be welded. They moved slightly when welded, and we had to make a slight clearance in the hood skeleton, but it still fits and works well.

I’ve seen some throttle body forward setups where a non-standard IC (tilted setup ala WRC) was used. It seem to eliminate about 80% of the piping length compared to the off the shelf ICs (Perrin/TurboXS/APS/Ijen/ARC/…). This would be a significant gain as it would be striking the balance between having a big core like a FM but the piping length more like a TM.

How many feet of piping did this save you vs. the original Perrin setup? Does it make a significant difference over the standard Perrin setup?

Beyond the performance aspect, I do like the bling factor it creates in the engine bay. I looks like top notch craftsmanship.

If you read the 1st post, it says I saved 2.5ft of tubing over the Perrin. This is just from the one side. A V-mount would surely save a TON of tubing, but I had to draw the line somewhere. It's enough work as it is. You forget that all this has to work when you are done with it.

I am still tracking down leaks.

A word of the wise to people looking to powdercoat tubing, do not use textured tubing. This stuff is giving me a tough time trying to seal it.

Nice job.... Interested in hearing driving impressions once you have the leaks fixed.

Did you put a bead on the end of the pipes ? See picture below for porfessional solution. Shadetree fix is to weld a bead on the pipe. It works (29 psi on my Lancer...)

It's not that the couplers are popping off which the bead rollers fix, it's just that they are tough to get to seal. I think I have most of the leaks fixed, but the damn blow thru MAF is still leaking.

Just mark the pipe and grind off the finish up to 1/4" or so of the end of the hoses, that way it looks like it's coated all the way, but it can fully seal on the bare ends of the piping.

Anyway, that engine bay is looking BEAUTIFUL man. 2.5' of piping... now that's something worthwhile. Great job!

Very very impressed. I would love to do this on my car when I switch to FMIC. I think the APS routes the pipes the opposite way, though.

I am having problems with leaks right now. I still have one intake leak with it leaking at the MAF sensor and multiple exaust leaks due to poor fitment of the Godspeed kit.

So far I have been having problems with most of the Godspeed Spec 650R pieces. The MAF hole is about .010" smaller than stock which causes the O-ring to bind up and not seal. And the EWG pipe fitment is poor causing a leak at the V-band flange because it is not square. Dan claimed that blow thru was the answer, but I cannot get the car to even idle with the MAF sensor plugged in on the stock ECU. I also have a ODB2 inspection in Dec! I am truely screwed. I will try to sort this out when I get back from vacation next week, but I am having problems.

At least it looks nice.....

Actually thanks for the compliment, but you couldn't be further from the truth. Everything in my car is for go, not show.

I seriously understand where you are coming from and thank you for the compliment again (I know you have good intent), but please don't call a STI with this much engine in engine mods, WRX wing, WRX scoop, WRX side skirts, only one STI badge in front, no STI seats, no PS2, no Xbox, no LCD screens, etc a show car. I built this car for one reason, to scare the **** out of me any anyone who may happen to be in the passenger seat. I made the engine bay look nice to represent how much work went into it that is all. If you saw my car on the street, you think "hey who's the poser that put the STI badge on the WRX?". You surely wouldn't ask "why does that guy have LCD screens in his fender well?"

I really think it is a shame where "show" cars have gone, but not to get this thread off track.

Are there any other questions about this mod that is still left in the air? I tried to share all problems I came across, but I could have left some out. Once I get these problems solved, I will polish and post on scoobymods.

incredible looking engine bay sir, can't say I agree with all the "de-badging" and wing changing, but that's just me, I am currently working on a intake manifold project with hydra standalone....just wondering why you are using the MAF......doesnt hydra alow for speed density, elimnating a MAF altogether?

ODB2 Inspection here in PA. I swap in the stock ECU a week before I have to be inspected

Actually what I was wondering about was the red paint. Any info on what brand/color was used for the red bits?

I think its a 2.35 block, T-62 turbo, 200 shot of NOS, and he uses MoTeC for engine management. It's quite fast though hasn't been at the track in awhile.
