A/C not working properly
I have 2015 WRX. I got over 36000 miles. No warranty for AC.
I had a similar problem last year once. Today when I was traveling on Interstate doing 65+ I noticed A/C was not blowing cold air anymore. On my way back I noticed when I was off the throttle (0% throttle) it turns on and blows cold air. Once I got back home tried the AC in the driveway, and it blows really cold. I'm sure it is not the charge. But when I get back on the throttle even as little 10% it stops blowing cold air. I now the car shuts off the AC temporarily when on full throttle. At no point, I was anywhere near full throttle. Outside temp was around 80 deg. Anything I should be checking? I got a 6hr trip coming up this weekend, and I would like to have AC working. Thanks.

Maybe they overfilled the system that once throttle is applied high side pressure goes up cutting the compressor off... I'm having AC issues as well but not the same as you....

I know this is an old thread but I had this exact issue with my 2015 WRX. Last summer I drove to western Nebraska and the compressor clutch would release after the engine got hot (oil temp 200+) with the throttle open. If I took my foot off the gas, the compressor clutch would re-engage and I'd get semi-cool air again. I noticed this the most on long uphill grades when the throttle had to be open more than usual to maintain set speed. On the downhill side the clutch would come back on because the throttle would back off.
There is a TSB out for this problem, apparently it's in the clutch wiring. Solution is replacing the compressor, unfortunately. I finally got someone to diagnose this after a couple of "can't find anything wrong" and "add some R134a" visits. |

I think Subaru should replace it free of charge. It's not like its a wear item. If it's a design fault, they should replace it.
