Default Any Wobbling >70mph

I've had my AV-20 18x9.5 w/ 255/35R18 Firehawk since Feb2018.
Ever since I had them, they had slight steering wheel wobble at speeds >70mph.

I've taken them to wheel works and firestone, to get them balanced (as well as alignment), and they all tell me all four wheels are slightly out of round.

Have any of you experience this?

No problem driving around town, but when I get on the highway and get up to speed, it's not enjoyable....

thinking about going back to stock.

I love the look though...maybe someone will sell gramslight 57extreme for the same price as the AV20 on black friday....yeah...maybe not..

That sucks. I had that issue (high speed vibration) on my old Mazdaspeed3, and it was a major PITA to fix. Thing is, it ended up having nothing to do with the wheels themselves, the issue started after a tire change. I took it to the same place to get rebalanced 2-3x, had the alignment checked... nothing. Rotated the wheels, they all seemed to have the same issue. Finally went and got them balanced somewhere else with fancy equipment, and the problem didn't disappear, but was minimized. Tore those tires up at the track, bought new ones, suddenly the ride was silky smooth.

I would be very surprised if all of your wheels are out of round. How did they check/confirm it was the wheels and not the tires?? I bet they didn't. My money is on the TIRES being the issue, as they frequently are, and when they're bad, they're usually bad in batches. Unfortunately I think you may have missed your window to get them replaced under warranty. You could try getting them road force balanced or something (i.e. spring for the fanciest balancing possible) and maybe they can fix/minimized the issue.

In any case, I'm really sorry you're having the issues, I know how much it sucks. It's something you shouldn't have to deal with since you bought everything new, yet you're going to have to spend even more money trying to sort it out.

It's also worth noting that I've driven several cars with pretty severely bent rim lips, and even that causes no vibration on the highway if properly balanced.

Hope that helps

does anyone have a photo of their car or a WRX (preferably a 14 wrx in blue) with the AV-27 on it? I really want to get that wheel in either gold or bronze for my 2014 WRX premium, just cant imagine how it's going to look is all.

oh and also, what width and offset should I run? I'm on stock suspension for now but I will either throw coil overs at the car, or a nice strut and spring combo in the near future and get the car lowered. I just want the tires and wheels flush with the fenders the way they are once it comes down in height

I'm wanting to get a set of AV-20s in 18x9.5 +38, will I run into any issues regarding clearence on brembos, rubbing issues, or anything else? On stock suspension. Also what tire size is best to prevent rubbing? Thank you guys!

Considering getting 18x8.5 av20 for my car. I really want as less of a poke as possible. Anyone have them on a 2012+ widebody sedan?

I really wanted to go for 255/40 on a 17x8 but I've heard that this isnt ideal. I am not super informed when it comes to wheel specs but I am slowly learning. If i went with the 18X8.5 i would def go for 255s but i just dont want to deal with endless rubbing issues. Anyone that could give me some advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2004 WRX on stock struts and epic engineering springs .
So I have AV-26 17x8 +35 with 235/45 tires on my 05 WRX on Tein Flex Z coilovers. I didnít have any problems with rubbing. It actually was pushed more away from my strut with the +35. I checked on WillTheyFit.com and entered my old and new specs for my wheels tho. Thatís the best way to find out what clears. I had an extra 7.3mm away from the strut

I've heard that the offset of these wheels (+33 for 8.5's, +38 for 9.5's) reduces handling and performance. Has anyone running these experienced that?

I ran 275 summer tires on +38 9.5s and the handling was improved. I lost about 2mpg highway but only .4mpg average

Thinking of getting either the AV-06 or AV-20 for my '08 STI in 18x9.5 et38, which of the wheels will clear the brembos and what tire size is best so no rubbing will occur. I am on stock suspension. Anything would help.

I recently read about when lowering the offset of your wheels it could potentially negatively affect how the car handles, it's alignment (toe-in/toe-out and such), and possible lowering the life of the wheel bearing due to a change in how they are stressed (or how the stress is spread throughout) due to adjusted scrub radius.

Since the AV20's lower the offset from +55 all the way down the +33, for those of you that got them how do you guys feel about the handling of these wheels when you switched compared to stock? Did you have to get them realigned or any issues related there?

Any input much appreciated as I'm really considering these for the near future.

I have AV-20s in 18x9.5 +38 with 265/35-18's on a 2013 wrx sedan, stock height. Fronts fit fine. Rear fenders had to be rolled.

Edited due to answering my main question.

Will the Avid av27 in 18x9.5 +38 clear the brembos on my 2017 sti?

also, do i need the rings? and what size lug nuts do i need? I've never had aftermarket wheels so apologies for my noob questions.

thanks everyone.

Default Fitment for 09WRX

I really want to get the Avid AV20 and can't find anything else (to me) that looks almost the same. Will the 18x9.5 +38 work even with a fender roll? Or will I have to do some minor pulling? I saw they make 17x9 but im not sure +33 will work on the narrowbody's.

Seems like lots of people have avids which look really good. Has there been any comments on reliability vs other brands that are cast (other than enkei and konig of course)?

Not planning to track my car, just a daily driver to and from work, road trips, grocery getter. Might hit a pot hole at some point i assume

Personally I'm very happy with the quality. Only slight issue is that the finish isn't that durable so if you scrape it (read - trying to change tires with with lousy tools too quickly) the finish will come off easily. Gloss finishes might be better off than the bronze matte I have, as they're probably clear coated.

Anyway, as long as you're careful, no problem. Only blemishes I've gotten in 2 years were self inflicted (as described above).

I wouldn't recommend hitting the mother of all potholes with an underinflated tire, but those can wreck high end wheels just as easily. Plus with these, you can buy a whole second set and still be saving money vs. the equivalently styled competition.
