Default Ford recalls new Ranger

2019 Ford Ranger: 3,500 recalled for faulty wiring, shifting issue

Ford Motor Co. recalled 3,500 brand-new Ranger midsize pickups because of wiring that may prevent the vehicle from locking in park, and then allowing the driver to shift out of park with the vehicle off.

The 2019 Ranger went on sale last month and, company officials have said, has proved immediately popular.

At issue, the company said in its safety compliance alert, is "shifter interlock functionality."

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the situation.

"In the affected vehicles, the PRNDL bezel wiring may interfere with the shifter interlock override, preventing the shifter from locking in the park position and allowing the driver to shift the transmission out of park with the vehicle off and without a foot on the brake pedal," Ford said in its statement.

The recall affects approximately 3,500 Rangers in North America, including approximately 3,000 in the U.S. and 500 in Canada. All were built at Michigan Assembly Plant from June 4 to Jan. 9.

Dealers will verify that the shifter interlock works by attempting to move the shifter out of park with the vehicle off and without a foot on the brake pedal, Ford said. If the shifter moves out of park, dealers will look for wiring interference, relocate the wiring and retest.

Ford's new Ranger, which is the No. 2 bestseller in the segment globally but has not been sold in the U.S. in recent years, is so popular that the company is planning factory overtime to meet demand.

They're out? I haven't seen one yet. Haven't seen a new Volvo S/V60, either.

Yep. My local dealer has about 15-20. I test drove a lariat 4x4 with the fx4 package. I really like the truck. I like my Colorado more though

I just built one out to the tune of $40k. I wonder what pricing will come down to with incentives. The canyon and colorado barely budge on pricing and I can build a similarly built F150 and with sales / incentives likely grab it for the same price of the Ranger.

I was wondering how the colo/canyon were bargaining now that theyve been successful for longer. I lucked out and got mine 4k off without even a haggle back in 16. Loaded z71 except for leather. Basically got diesel and everything that comes with it free.

Saw both the new silverado and ranger on lots today, silverado looks better, more than i thought id like it, the ranger looks good too, but disappears in the sea of f150's on the lot. I could barely pick it out. White lariat

I got my loaded out zr2 with diesel for 43.4k OTD down here in Tejas. Plus they gave me 1k more than what I paid for my 17 taco TRD off-road.

My truck is currently down in Houston getting a bunch of custom work done. Suspension, bumpers, chase rack.....etc

Typical Ford. Already a recall before hardly any had been sold.

Compared to typical GM? Letting the buyers do the durability testing.
Maybe the recalled ones were put together by trainees who weren't quite up to speed? Have yet to see any here lost in the sea of Tacomas. Then again, greedy local dealers probably (over)price them to the point to move more F150s "for not much more on the monthly payment".

Its a small issue, not very far into production either. Strange glitch though. I had to almost squint to pick the ranger out from the f150s, they shouldnt put them right next to each other...or build a wall of super dutys in between. They blend in together way too well. Corporate face very strong.

Surprisingly, other than the nearly expected "chevy lean" Ive not had one issue with my colo diesel at 67k, carrying a 1200 lb camper, living in snow country and hot desert, and off roading a good amount.

I wouldn't buy a GM either.

yes, instead of waiting until the s*** has hit the fan and people have taken up their pitchforks, realized that doesn't matter, given up, and gone home.

Lets be honest here, although powertrain reliability has improved for nearly every manufacturer to the point where it's "just change the oil every now and then and you're fine" everything else is garbage. They are all trying to push out "what the people want" with complete disregard to anything beyond the warranty period. Engines are cheap in comparison to all the faberge tech inside of cars.
