Talking Deadbolt VF7!

Finally got around to installing it today...gave him a stock VF7 and he P'nP'd it!

It spools quicker ofcourse, theres way more top end then before, and overall the car feels much torquier....whatever bottom end was lost from the TWE header being on the car (some people argue that ALL the bottom end - below 3000 is GONE - I've yet to see that even with the otherwise stock setup) is back and better than ever!

We'll see how it responds on an autox course comming April 3rd at CCR's Knights Castle event.

Pics!

Jerry IS THE FREAKING MAN. He has answered countless emails from me with presice knowlage of everything that goes on reguarding the turbos, and what he could do to meet my needs. I still haven't purchased aturbo from him yet, due to financial inadiquacies, but will never even consider getting a turbo from any other person. Who else is wiling to give free rebuilds for life on there turbos. That alone is worth the upmost respect, but he still dares to go even further with his amazingly outstanding customer service. Keep up the outstanding work Jerry, and thanks for all the answered questions via email. Ryan Crane

It would be very interesting to see this damage that they say Deadbolt caused. Especially since they have tons of spare VF39 turbo parts laying about, I am certain that Jerry would have taken care of a problem if it had happened while the turbo was in the possesion of DBE.

DBE is one of the best, most honorable vendors on this board. If they say that the turbo was damaged when they opened the box, then it was and you need to take it up with the shipping company.

I don't guess you have ever witnessed the horror that guys working at UPS loading docks inflict upon packages. I just recently shipped an intercooler to someone in San Francisco and it was packaged incredibly well. There were three inches of bubble wrap taped around the intercooler. When the guy got it, the box looked like it had been dropped off of a building and the intercooler was bent heavily on both sides.

I just sent a turbo to Deadbolt that was damaged in shipping as well. They've been great to deal with and took pictures of the turbo so I could file a UPS claim. I don't know if it's the local UPS people there or what. I've shipped lots of turbos and other parts packaged similarly and never had a problem but someone really worked over the box I sent mine in. It was impact damage that would have taken a lot of force.

If this was the turbo sent in from EIP racing it was packed like complete crap, we have shipping tips on our website for just this type of situation (obviously Paul did not read them at all.) http://www.boostplanet.com/shipping.htm This turbo was put into an 8X8X8 box, which was then put into another 10X10X10 box and had some of the little inflatable plastic bubbles put in with it (the type that electronics come pacakged in.) There was also about 1 handful of styrofoam peanuts in with it. The turbo was not wrapped in bubble wrap or anything, just some plastic bag matierial. The turbo had rattled around so much inside the box by the time it got here that it had punched a huge hole in the box and was hanging out the side, all the bubbles were popped (yes, those are for light duty shipping NOT something as heavy as a turbo.) When we removed it from the box and found the damage we immediately called, no answering machine or anything picked up, we attempted to send a fax, no answer, and continued this for three days until we finally got a call from EIP wondering if the turbo was ready. We told them no that it was not and that we had been trying to get in touch with them. "Oh, the business card I sent has the wrong numbers on it" As bad as the packing job was, I was quite surprised that the damage was not much more extensive.

I did not have an extra housing and actuator here for that turbo to sell so I removed the one from the turbo I was saving for my wife's car to help him out even!

You obviously do NOT know the whole story here, or at least not the true story, so I would suggest that unless you have firsthand knowledge of a situation (meaning you are directly involved) that you don't try to go and damage the reputation of a company that does its best to help customers avoid this type of problem.

Quote:
From the boostplanet.com shipping page:
We do not like telling customers that their turbos arrived here in a damaged condition, so to help with getting your turbo here in safe condition, we have put together the following list of tips:

We recommend at LEAST a 12X12X12 box for shipping most turbos, for large turbos, a 14X14X14 box is recommended.

Wrap the turbo HEAVILY in bubble wrap, make sure that the turbo is sealed from any packing materials getting inside. It is VERY time consuming to dig packing peanuts out of the housings.

Place the turbo in the box with the bottom coolant return line facing UPWARDS or to the SIDE. We have seen countless damaged turbos because this line was left facing the bottom. In shipping it will work its way through the shipping material and wind up contacting hard surfaces such as truck floors, shipping docks, etc. This damage is very expensive, and if it occurs your core refund will be reduced.

Pack the box tightly with heavy duty packing material, leave as little room for the turbo to move as possible, if the turbo moves inside the box, the risk of damage increases dramatically!

Check out the shipping damage pictures to the side to see what we are talking about. ->
Sorry, but how in the world can that be misread?!?!?!

i saw what they put it in and yes i dont know your side of the story and if you called them today then mission accomplished. All i know is that you havnt called them back and i did see the damage to the turbo and some of it looked as if it were impossible to happen from shipping. With that said i am glad you have responded to my post and thank you for that. It shows that you are the company i thought you were and maybe i have indeed misunderstood.

If anyone has ever been to a UPS store, they ask "can this package survive a 6 foot drop?" The "paddles" in the shipping dept hit a box with the force of a 6 foot drop. So next time anybody ships UPS, ask yourself, "will this hold up when dropped from 6 feet?"

We have called him back every time he left a message. We do not have caller ID here so if he just called and hung up on the answering machine we have no way to get in touch.

Well I thought I would post my experience with Deadbolt.

** IF YOU ARE A VENDOR AND READING THIS, PAY ATTENTION!**

If you do not have parts in stock, let the customer know when they are placing an order. Not weeks after we should have received our parts.

If there is a problem with the order that could have not been forseen, do your job! Let the customer know.

If there was a delay, make up for it by using a faster shipping method.

Now, if you did all the above... you'd be up there with Jerry and his great customer service! I am very pleased with the Super 16g. I am very happy that Jerry took the time to explain all my options. I am pleased that he explained EVERYTHING up front, before I made the purchase. And shipping, 4 days to England! This thing was so well packed I could have dropped it from chest level and I doubt anything would have been damaged. You da man Jerry!

I'll be back for a TD05 18g!

Steven

I met Jerry and found the appearance of a southern gentleman. His knowledge is top notch and he will spend the time to share it. Just chek his posts here, very thorough. That being said, I sent a turbo in for a free rebuild. 3 months later it was finally returned after many missed promised delivery dates and came covered in a fine abrasive requiring the unit to be torn down and cleaned. On the sales side of things he is most attentive but on the back end service, response and action leave quite a bit to be desired.

LoveRoad Racing is NOT now nor has never been a customer of Deadbolt Enterprises, so his post has no business being here. He purchased a car from me personally, refused to listen to my advice on tuning/setup, took it to a track and blew it up. Now, through some sort of revenge, he is apparently attempting to get back at me personally by attacking the business. Oh yeah, this after he called and left profane threatening messages both on my work and HOME phone!

I say LoveRoadRacing should get teh baRn.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled review thread:

I bought a td06-18g from Jerry a while back. I had just recently gotten around to having everything installed and tuned. After the install was done, my tuner called and said that the car would not boost over 6psi. Upon checking, what had happened is that the weld on the wastegate (I have an external setup) had let loose, leaving the internal wastegate open. My tuner and I both contacted Jerry about the problem. Jerry informed the tuner on how to fix the problem and is picking up the tab for the required welding.

When it comes to turbos, I will NEVER do business with anyone other then Deadbolt Ent. The way the situation was handled and the time that it was handled in was a testement to how well Jerry takes care of his customers. As for anyone out there saying that the mistake shouldn't have been made in the first place, I would tend to agree. However, I figure that if you move as much of a specialty product as Deadbolt does, a mistake is bound to be made eventually. The true measure of a company is how well that mistake is dealt with.

Thank you Jerry,

George Lewellyn

All go and no show...

Thumbs up

I got a Monster TD05H-16G with black xtreme and grey ceramic from Jerry last year and it's been great. He kept in touch with me very well (even though he was having e-mail problems at the time) and everything went very smoothly.

Thanks Jerry!

Just had a Deadbolt TD06H-20G Zilla installed on my STi. This turbo is top notch. I inspected the turbo before the install and it is high quality - unlike some other brands of turbos I've inspected in the past. Car performs with stock characteristics (spooling) but has way more mid range and top end power. Love my car's performance with this turbo...

Jerry... where to start...

I'll keep this relatively short.

1) I have nothing but the highest commendation for Jerry, his work, his products and his customer service.
2) He rebuilt and upgraded a turbo that is normally considered "not rebuildable" - a VF34. Apparently the parts just aren't available to rebuild these turbos, but Jerry got it done.
3) His response to emails and PMs have always been prompt, with clear, detailed answers for every question I have had.
4) He has always strived to maintain an open line of communication, especially when there are delays or problems in fulfilling orders.
5) I would recommend Jerry and his products to anyone who needed any sort of turbo work done. He's a stand-up guy and his work is truly top-notch.

For those who want details of my dealing with Jerry and why I recommend him so highly, I'd be glad to offer more information in PMs or email.

I am the recent recipient of a monstor TD04 port and polish.
I use my car in solo 2 here in Ontario in our ES/P class.
I've had the turbo in the car for 6 weeks. done 3 regional championship events and have won my class in all 3 events and had top 10 overall times at all of them.
The car pulls hard and I have yet to find myself on course where I can say I wish the boost would come on.

Jerry has been great with responding to my emails and is an exceptional vendor in my mind.
