I have this click as well, but it's gotten to the point where I'm just used to it.
However, that being said, my clutch pedal started to develop a more pronounced pop/crack sound in the first 1cm or so of travel. This happens at random times and when I press the clutch from neutral position. |

Bought my 08 WRX (40K miles) about 4 months ago, and noticed more of a popping than a clicking noise developed after about 3k of my miles driven. Also, the brake pedal would move when I pressed the clutch so I knew the problem was more serious based on reading others posts here. Took the car back to the dealer and found out that a weld on the assembly had failed.
Car was in the shop for about a week and a half while they ripped out the interior and re-welded the assembly. I ended up paying just $200 (instead of $2500-3000). Definitely take your car in if you are having the more serious popping noise. Subaru seemed to own up to the manufacturing issue pretty fast without much back and forth...even with my buy being a used car and 40k miles in when I brought the problem to their attention. |

I have a 2011 wrx with 22500 miles. The clutch, TO bearing, flywheel and pressure plate were all replaced at 21200 miles after the clutch failed..
I have the same issue with the clutch feelig sloppy and notchy when going from a stop about to engage into first gear. I took my car into the dealer after i started feelig this and they said the clutch was fine even went for a drive with the lead mechanic and he said it was fine. Now it has taken me a month to get used to this clutch so its not acting so notchy now but when other people that own wrx drive it they cant get it to shift smoth out of first at a stand still.. If someone has the conplete solution and problem fixed by dealer please post in here.. Ill keep bugging the **** out if the dealer till this issue is fixed. I am also starting to develop the clutch click poppin sound.. I check out whats going on with that tomorrow. |

Just brought home my new WRX. Got it with 7 miles, its now parked with 72. I've been driving a Sentra for the past 7 years and boy does this thing book it. I've noticed that the shifter is a little "loose". The biggest problem I had was going from 2nd to 3rd gear, when you try to guide the shift knob it keeps trying to go to 5th. I changed my shift style to just pop it straight up without guiding and it'll go to 3rd smoothly. Aside from that its very clunky, I was playing with the BRZ's shifter in the showroom and that thing was tight and as smooth as butter. Reminded me of an RSX shifter that I played with at an autoshow when they first came out. Am I just getting used to the shifter or is it really this clunky? Would a short throw shifter make a big difference? Any suggestions?

Yes and Yes. It is clunky. If you don't have the short throw, that will help a lot. These shifters are nothing like a Honda shifter. You will get used to it.

SOA repaired this for me under warranty. It took a while, though, since the dealer first diagnosed it to be the clutch pedal assembly. When the clicking/popping sounds persisted after replacing the clutch pedal assembly, the dealer/SOA replaced the master cylinder as well. Fortunately, I was given a loaner from Enterprise for the waiting time.

i see a decent amount of play on the rod connecting to the clutch pedal. i lubed that up a bit more. we'll see if it did anything. may have to put some spacers on either side so it doesn't slide on the mounting bolt.

Just wanted to give an update to this old thread if people are still wondering about the click. My click is still there after 2.5 years of driving. It comes and goes. No noticeable problems with the clutch otherwise.

Mine has been clicking 100% since a month or two after the MC was replaced in spring 2011. I believe it is the clutch/brake/cruise switch. I have a spare switch and the switch makes the same clicking sound when you push the button it. You could removed the two cruise switches from the clutch and brake, but I just live with it.

I got underneath to take a look. I see/hear the click from the switch and about 1cm after the switch clicks it makes a pop/clunk noise. I have a 2012 with 12k. I'm gonna take it as soon as I get a chance. Outside of the noise everything feels fine.

What is strange to me is that I see a bunch of folks saying they started hearing this noise around 40K miles. I just recently turned 40K on my 2012 wrx. I just started getting this noise randomly with the clutch. Its almost like chatter, but everything still seems to function correctly.
Note: I did just add a FMIC and had a coupler pop off at high boot cause the engine to shut off. I'm not sure if I cause some damage when this happened, but the noise did become more apparent after the incident. |

2008 up WRX clutch clicking noise
The clicking noise could be from the firewall pinch weld that breaks. The only way to get to the point of failure is to remove the dash. If you go this far, make sure you weld all of the bracket that is compromised. No fun removing the dash twice for the same repair.

My 2011 with 63000 kms started doing that clicking noise from the clutch pedal since it got warmer. Dealer diagnosed it as the clutch master cylinder. Going to get it replace tomorrow under extended warranty. hopefully itll fix it for good.
I know for sure its not coming from the clutch assist spring located behind the pedal because i Removed it for a day and it would still make the noise. Its not from the clutch or cruise switch. Its louder. |

its been about a month that the clutch master cylinder has been replaced and the noise is still gone so thats good. Clutch pedal feels almost the same, maybe a bit easier to engage.

My experience with this issue so far:
I noticed a loud pop noise at the beginning of clutch engagement that progressively got louder and is now consistent with every clutch engagement. I found out about the bracket issue here in the forums and decided to give SOA a call. My car is a 09 wrx hatch with 111,000 miles and its protuned (fmic, intake, TBE, act clutch etc) so obviously not stock. I calmly called SOA and told them about the noise and emphasized that I could see the brake pedal flex and move with every clutch engagement and I did not want the pedals falling in the floor board. The rep asked me if the "pedal area" has been modified and I honestly answered no. I then scheduled my free inspection at a Subaru dealer and they verified that the bracket has failed. Dealer called me the next day and said SOA completely agreed to cover the repair. So next week I will see if this repair get rid of the pop noise. |

Hmm well I just looked this up I have a 12 wrx with 35k miles and used to do the click noise all the time at the top of the pedal. But now the pedal actually squeaks inside and outside of the car I hear it. Clutch still feels fine but might go get it checked out

Took my car today to get the bracket fixed. They completed the job in one day. It feels 1000% more sturdy. All 6 welds were broken. No more clicks or pops or squeaks. All covered by SOA and I was 60,000 out of warranty.

So my 2010 wrx with 116000km has had this popping/squeak noise with the clutch for a few years now.
Always bothered me but dealer didnt think much of it, and the sound would be there for a while then go away, then come back and so forth. Heard it come back 2 days ago as I was arriving home from a trip. Then a day ago, starting the car in the morning (coldest day of year so far, around -12 deg C), pressed the clutch in and it didnt pop back up. Was able to release it by hand, pressed it and heard a pop and it just got stuck again. Looked under the car and see fluid leaking and a c-ring, 2 round metal plates, and another ring of some sort. Had to get it towed to dealer and now installing new master cylinder. (going to be about $500 between the tow/parts/labor, ouch...) I am in canada in the Eastern Toronto area (whitby), I am wondering if anyone had this happen? Could bad spot welds have caused something to get stuck in the 1st place? Or what could cause the MC to fail like that? Anyone in canada have this happen and were you able to resolve it with subaru if the welds are bad or have dealer check it welds? |
