I think it's like why Subaru doesn't equip their wrx and sti with Volk or work wheels. They know it's not worth it because it's a very subjective market, one that accommodates very specific preferences. And if it just adds substantially to the price it acts more like a deterrent than a reason to buy.

No, that's because they know that aiming cars at 17yo dickheads is not an ideal marketing strategy.

Adding $2-3K to the Subaru price is the reason they didn't do it.

Apple can make decent headphones without increasing the price of the product. Like said earlier, many "cheap" headphones outperform the stock apple ones by a mile.

The upgraded Apple earbuds are fantastic, IMO.

They've been fantastic for years.

All this bitching about the earbuds that come free with an iPhone = poor people problems.

Superficially, it's hitting all the right marks, but Lightning comes up short in a number of important areas. It is, of course, incompatible with the roughly 350 million billion iPhone and iPod accessories currently on the market -- a problem mostly rectified by a $30 adapter. But, that's not a perfect solution, as even that won't support iPod Out, the specification used in some cars (most notably BMW and Mini) to enable in-dash control of an iPod or iPhone.
Sorry Chreeees.

If I'm buying an $80 pair of headphones for an ipod/iphone, they are NOT going to be from Apple.

Actually the ear buds that come with my nexus phone are quite good. We are just bitching about how the greatest company in the world can't at least put decent headphones with their products. It's not hard for other companies

Don't ever trust Apple performance estimates. The A6 is an under clocked Samsung SoC with good a good GPU, nothing impressive.

Is that just because they were made by Apple? Don't you read reviews and base your purchases off that? I look for the best reviewed headphones in my price point and go from there. I don't care who makes them.

I assume most of us that got in on the pre-order will get tracking numbers today. At least I hope we do.

$80 is dirt cheap for a dual driver earbud.

Does your breath smell like ass? Because that's what you're talking out of. The A6 was designed by Apple and fabricated by Samsung and probably TSMC.

Android user here, with a gf that has a IP4S (and soon to be 5). At first when I saw the iPhone 5 release conference I was like meh. Have to admit after reading up on it, I'm impressed with the hardware aspect. CPU and GPU are probably the best out right now, impressed Apple designed the A6 themselves.

Also regarding the earpods, for $30 its getting some praise on Headfi. Not my first choice at that price point though.

Supposedly ios6 is going to be available today, but I don't have the option to update yet. Anyone know if today was still supposed to be the new os update?

No, I read it at Anandtech.

The A6 is the first Apple SoC to use its own ARMv7 based processor design. The CPU core(s) aren't based on a vanilla A9 or A15 design from ARM IP, but instead are something of Apple's own creation.
