Ahh yes you're right. Yeah Auto AC sucks. Turns the car into a tornado zone.

One more thing, I don't like the clutch pedal feel. It's feels like it grabs too high. Would like it closer to the floor.

Yeah I just need to get around to it.

While we're bitching about first world problems, kinda wish sixth was more of a overdrive/taller cruising gear.

Hill-hold assit. No idea why that even exists. I disabled that thing right at the dealership when I picked it up.

My gripes:
  • thigh bolstering is non-existent
  • door armrest is small and doesn't reach forward enough (I'm short so its a short person's gripe haha)
  • no fold-down centre armrest for the rear like in previous years
  • voice-activated commands are s l o w (but at least touch commands are really quick)
  • HK unit has no graphic equalizer... The base unit has it, but not the HK I got the sound to where its pretty good and I like it a lot, but it could use a tad more tweaking with a graphic equalizer
  • preset stations for SiriusXM shows the channel number and not the channel name
  • no hidden holder for my sunglasses
  • C-lights are weak and are not DRL/high beam bulb is the DRL
  • no oil temp gauge... WRX has it (i think), but couldn't put it in the STI -- the supposedly track-focused car?
  • heated steering wheel... already have heated seats, defrosting side mirrors, windshield wiper defrosting, so why not heated steering wheel?

Final and most nit-picky gripe: When you get into the car, the centre screen in between the gauges shows a silhouette of the car, but its wingless! I want the wing dammit! haha

That's all I have. Annoying gripes, but not deal-breakers. Still love the car.
MY17 STI has the wing in the greeting picture. I'm from I put it down to us Aussies having a free trade deal...

Deals to be made...

1: Boot needs to be slammed, doesn't really bother me
2: Cup holders far to close to DCCD button. I almost lost a KFS cup of coke, lucky it was a save.

Other than that, it's the best car I have ever owned. It's perfect for myself and my family at this time in our lives, we are a growing unit. But until then it's I'm sticking to STI but if we get bigger I might have to move towards an Audi S7.... that's if I have enough $$$

My gripes are:
1. lack of power passenger seat in the LTD
2. Lack of memory drivers seat or mirrors in ltd
3. Pathetic child seat anchor cut out in the rear. Looks like they just poked a hole in the seat.

I adjusted the trunk latch (lower one). Moved it a little up. I can now close the trunk without slamming it.

If anyone does this, be sure to mark where it currently is at before moving it. Good reference point and fall back point.

1. The seats aren't great. I liked my 2011 Wrx seats 10 times better then my 2017 sti.
2. The speakers still suck.
3. Every time I go to spin to a new radio station my knuckle hits the info button.
I will have to adjust my trunk latch as well.

Oddly I think the seats are much better than previous years. I had an 08 and I would take these over those any day.

I agree. I like them far more than the seats in my 11 STI.

However... I do wish the STI was stitched in red like it was on the previous generation's seats.

Hmm...

Tested this and mine seems to reset even when the car is at temp. Still don't see how this is a good thing. You can lay off the gas pedal when it is warming up even when it's in s#.

Same thing I've noticed. Always returns to s rather than # regardless of temps.

Tried it. And it does go back to S or to I after you turn it off. When cold, it doesnt let you select S#. Not sure if it's a gripe or not. First time I noticed was actually looking for it. S# is pretty fun, so I guess if you do want to stay in S# it gets annoying to have to keep setting it on...

About the seats... they are fine. Not race seats, but not bad seats at all. Taken couple hr+ trips in them and pretty comfortable.

Really, to me the one Subaru screws up with is not adding the extra layer of quality. It shows up in the paint, the plastics, the tin. EVERYTHING is ~2 mm thinner than it should be.... the paint has like 1 coat less than it should have...... etc.

To everyone mad that AC turns on when defrosting... its using it as a dehumidifier - dry air will clear up the windshield much faster. Otherwise it wont be as effective and will probably put a film on your windshield after a few weeks of depositing moist air and its junk on the inside of your windshield.

Apparently, the testers at Subaru didnt think the driver would get out of the car while the car was running. Thus the issue that I cant unlock the passenger door while the car is running, unless it is from the driver side door.

Is anyone else having this problem? I remembered that I disconnected the battery trying to fix the GPS issue, and I ended up having to reset the auto up/down switches.
Cant you just change the settings in the center console to open "all doors" versus just the "driver door" when opening with keyless? Thats what I did with my 16 couple days after owning it. Unless Im totally missing this "gripe"

Only thing I really hated was the touchy throttle and music art not always being displayed lol. Everything else has been remedied with mods.

What adjustment did you make to get the trunk to close with less force?

Unlocking all doors via door handle doesn't really fix the problem. It just hides it for certain circumstances.

Problem is that, while the car is running, the passenger door cannot be unlocked by any means other than the physical unlock button on the driver side. The problem does not occur while the car is off.

You can move up and down the lower latch. Just make sure to mark where it currently is at, and notice the trunk lines. If you move the latch too much, the trunk will appear more open than closed

If you have the car unlock all the doors then the passenger door will never be locked while it's running unless you do it manually. Seems like it fixes your issue.

Gripe: A/C fan speed is way to high even on lowest. The 05 STI had like a million variances on fan speed. This one has like 6.
Also, does the auto A/C even work? I will be freezing before the fan even adjusts itself to the temperature set. It is always full fan. Ive never seen a Subaru system work properly on this.

random joy: Im less than 100 miles away from 1k. Ill be adjusting the rev beep from 4k to 5k and enjoying the car more
Ill do 6 or 7k rev beep once I reach 2k miles.
REV BEEP?! Haven't even noticed this feature. How do I adjust that?

Yeah that's how I use it too. Normally I just keep the AC in recirc and it never fogs. But whn you put defrost on the new WRX, it automatically puts it in AC plus external inflow... which I dont like.

Where I am its super humid so letting external air (full of moisture) is actually worse in my case.

I dont think I care yet, because I can just keep the AC on as normal and it should work. Havent been trhough a winter yet.....
