Having read and reread this thread and countless articles across the web for quite some time, pulled the trigger yesterday afternoon on an XV Premium CVT with a few port options for the wife. She originally wanted the Tangerine, but it was proving difficult to find in stock anywhere between CT and MD. I wasn't going to wait for one to come in- wanted the deal done in less than 24 hours. So we went with our second color choice - Desert Khaki. Found one in stock at our closest dealer, went down for a test drive, negotiated a fair price below MSRP, and put a deposit down about 30 minutes later.

Prepped today, and finalized the sale tonight. Sitting now in the garage nice and shiny and new.

Actually, allow me to elaborate on one thing. I was able to find one Tangerine in stock at Freehold Subaru. Their website listed it in stock, with an MSRP of 24,361 (IIRC the dollar amt exactly) with an option of "get your E-price". So, I asked what the E-price was and waited for a response.

The vaguely phrased reply I received back was leading me to believe the E-price was the same as MSRP..$24361. To verify the accuracy of that email, I asked for clarification- was the E-price the same as the MSRP? The guy who wrote back said:

Hi jms

Yes the MSRP is the same as the internet sale price.

With every car vehicle purchase at Freehold Subaru you get:

Free Lifetime Oil Changes
Free Service Loaner Cars
#1 rated Customer Service Dealer in Central NJ
Family owned & operated since 1964
blah blah blah

Sorry, Ira. I don't pay MSRP.

At 50.00 (I don't know what a dealer charges as I do my own changes and it cost me under 40) and using the severe service interval over 200,000 miles, it is 53 changes for a total of 2650. I don't think I would pay that up front, especially since I do my own changes

Depends if the distance is convenient or not.

Bingo. 75 miles one way does not warrant an oil change there. I can understand the desire of a dealer to throw in niceties like that for local customers. Helps build a good standing in the community. But for a customer shopping online who might be in a different part of the state or country, no go.

I made a 786 mile trek from CT to Myrtle Beach for New years and averaged 30.3mpg on the way home averaging 75mph. Really nice ride, my only complaint is the OEM speakers really suck but I'm addressing that shortly.

the head unit sucks, the speakers aren't terrible but, if you are changing speakers might as well do the head unit as well.

Is there a kit that allows you to use the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket HU?

Yes.

SWI-ELC, SWI-JACK, SWI-PS or SWI-RC depending on what head unit you're using.

If you don't mind saying, what did you end up negotiating? I've had the exact experience with the dealer not wanting to reduce the msrp. I understand supply/demand, but it's not a unicorn... not that I'd be looking to buy one of those...

Personally, I would buy a unicorn at MSRP, but not a new car I'm not getting a Crosstrek unless it's at invoice price, as it's already right up there near Forester pricing.

Default Finally test drove

Well, yesterday I finally found a dealer in my area with an in-stock XV. It was a silica black pearl premium with cvt. I took it through hilly suburbs and onto the interstate. I walked away with the feeling that the car was...in one word... sufficient.

For the most part, everything I've read about the XV and impreza was confirmed. Having read that performance suffers with more than one passenger, I took two along with me and found that the XV had no real issues going up steep inclines. I must admit I was afraid to take it out on the interstate as I was in a high traffic area and most reviews have complained about the XV being underpowered and noisy at high speeds. I even made it a point to warn my passengers about the possibility of an uncomfortable situation...but the XV was no different than any other standard 4-cylinder I've driven. I would love if this thing had a turbo, but I'm not buying it to win races, I'm buying it to go places.

In the brief time I switched over to manual mode and played with the paddle shifters, I really couldn't find any .good use for them and didn't think they helped much with engine-braking,at least not at speeds under 35mph.

My rear-seat passenger commented on the comfort of the ride and felt there was sufficient space. My front-seat passenger however noted that the hump from the bell housing of the cvt cut into space in the foot well. I noticed a small hump on the drivers side so I thought nothing of it until I later got home and checked out the footprint of the husky liners... now I wish I had checked out the passenger seat for myself. Has anyone else noticed this?

I managed to find a dealer who would give me invoice pricing. Of the 3 main dealerships in Kentucky, the largest would not budge from MSRP and the smallest offered me dealer invoice... all they have to do is find the DGM Limited that I want. The other dealer took it upon themselves to find it but would only give me $500 over invoice. I already have my current vehicle sold, and I'm fortunate enough to be in no rush to purchase, so, for now.. I'm just waiting for the right one.

Ugh! I love seeing these on the road or in driveways. They're just juicy.

Why still no separate forum for Crosstrek?

See, that combo is just sick. I'd rock that for sure. It's the same color combo I like on the Impreza.

The Brighton, L, 2.5RS, 2.5i, 2.0i, WRX and STI all share the Impreza sub forum.. I think the Crosstrek, which is less different from the 2.0i than any of the others are from each other (except for maybe the Brighton and L) fits in there just fine.

.. unless you were referring to a separate forum from NASIOC.. http://www.subaruxvforum.com/

No, I meant sub-forum. How long have the Outback and Legacy had their own, separate forums on NASIOC? We've already seen that the Crosstrek is significantly different than the Impreza. Plus, this is the IMPREZA Owner's Club, so Impreza, Impreza WRX and Impreza WRX STI shouldn't expect to get their own forum. However, if you look, Impreza DOES have it's own forum since this site is basically for WRX/STI owners. You're saying that Forester shouldn't get their own forum, either, since it shares the Impreza platform?

Where does the madness end?!?!!??!!!!
