Wow...you've never gotten above 25 mpg? My WRX gets over 30 mpg on the highway..

90k on my wife's 2011 Forester. Had to put a new clutch and reseal the timing chain covers last week. It burns no oil to date. To be fair my wife is very hard on the car, she has a bad habit of lugging the engine and riding the clutch, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I took over the Forester and bought her a new Crosstrex and yes it's an automatic transmission this time!

Viewing the gauge set, I see this is before they slapped on the eco-efficiency gauge at the bottom of the spedo. Not that it makes much difference, just try to keep your foot off the floor, LOL,

my 14 legacy has that quage too. its comical. its only got 170hp. if i drove economically, id never get to 55 mph! lol.

Never been a fan of Scotty, but cant help but agree. Rotations per mile are dependent directly from your driving style. Period.

About 43k on my '12 sport premium impreza with 5mt. Talk about oil consumption, oil light came on at 1700 miles and 3700 miles. After all the back and forth with Subaru, got a new block around 20k. Oil light came on only once after the new block was installed about 1k before next oil change was due.

why not get into a habit to check the oil before a light comes on? do you want the new engine to blow up? this is like people that never check air pressure in tires. ive checked fluids in our 3 subarus every few weeks for years. jmho.

My policy has always been to check oil halfway between oil changes. The fact that his oil light came on before he was even halfway to his 6k service means that the car was consuming oil way too fast anyway. Checking the oil more frequently wouldn't have changed the fact that the block was defective and needed replaced.

no doubt. my wifes fozzy got soo bad i ended up with a brand new shortblock in may. it was burning oil like crazy. it hasnt used a drop since the engine replacement. ive just always checked under the hood of my vehicles like bi-weekly and checked tire pressures. i just did tire pressures last night with it getting colder. every tire on the 5 cars at my house were down a bit on air. id rather trust a good guage than a idiot light in the dash. jmho.

after my last reply back in 9/2016 I have my car back in the shop for a new short block. I really hope they fixed it this time. Anyone know what tehy did to correct the short blocks?

I have now 246k on my FB25 2013 Forester. Oil is about 1.2qt consumption over 7.5k miles. Oil always changed religiously. Bought with 70k. I will drive it until it dies.

13 Crosstrek CVT. 150k. CVT replaced at 53k miles, short block replaced at 94k miles.

FB25 engine lasted 224,160 miles... just let go cruising down the road at 40 mph

I would be curious to know what the oil level in the engine was at failure...

The motor burned oil, but it had plenty of oil in it when it went. Oil line was just below the full mark on the dip stick.

Now 190k

Using 5W 30 because the specified 0water 20 gets an oil light way before the 5k mile point where I change oil. 5W 30 goes right to 5k. CVT Solenoid block replaced right around 150k and CVT fluid and filter replaced then.

Bought a 2013 Impreza around Aug 2019 with ~425k on the original engine and trans. Trans had an issue and was swapped for a lightly used unit right before I bought it. The engine was also burning burning quite a bit of oil so I swapped in a 2014 engine with only 35k miles in April 2020. Currently has~470k and still going strong. ISZ

well, i have a 2015 impreza limited pzev 2.0L with 83K miles that just threw some engine codes, started lugging, and now has a banging noise coming from inside the engine.


one mechanic took a 2 second listen and said "your timing chain skipped on the sprocket. your engine is blown."


and ... that jackhammering noise stops intermittently during which time the car drives normally! so now it's at the dealer, and OF COURSE the mechanic can't get it to happen....
