Exclamation So...gas went up $0.15 overnight...

Then I come into work and see this:

http://money.cnn.com/2005/03/04/news...ices/index.htm

Groovy. Thanks Chavez and Venezuela.

Regular is now $2/gallon in the sticks. Yesterday, it was $1.85! If I stopped in DC or Montgomery County, I'm sure I'd have a seizure followed by heart attack.

What's it gone up to at your place?

Hehe, I am glad I filled up last night too Gas prices are only going to keep going up, I don't see them ever going down unless we find some huge reserve in america somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if were all driving hybrid's or some other form of car in the next 10 years. As much as I love gas engines, and trust me I do. I think we need to get away from using Gas for so many reasons. Once gas engines go, turbo's will too

Just be thankful you don't drive a full-size SUV or pickup. My roommate drives a 4Runner (I know, it's not technically a full-size SUV but it's still big) and he's h8in' the new gas prices.

When they do away with our gas we can all run turbodiesels !

i've seen full size turbodiesel trucks run 14's in the quarter. I'll take that over an electric blender on wheels any day

I don't mind paying more; it's worth it to see the big SUVs (hummer, suburban, etc) putting 100 bucks in at a time. I don't think that the high prices will last long, the car makers will lobby nonstop to bring the price down.
You have to also remember that OPEC wants to make money too. They want to get as much money out of oil as possible without scaring people into conservation. If the price is too low, people will buy more SUVs/ more gas and conserve less, but OPEC is not making it's potential as far as money. If the prices are too high, people will buy less oil and conserve, and then they will not reach their money projections.

Yeah, I began seriously considering a diesel in the family. Shame there aren't more choices than VW. Is Mercedes still bringing diesel E class models here? At least the TS gets about 26-30mpg right now, but I'll still cringe when it will cost $30 to fill up.

that works until you realize that diesel is composed of larger molecules than gasoline and therefore there's less room for cracking larger compounds down to it.

You guys HAVE to stop all of the hatin' on the electric hybrids.
When I was living in japan, I knew a dude who had a 10 second gas/electric hybrid.
Keep in mind that when you have electric hubs, you have NO DRIVETRAIN!

The only thing I hate about hybrids is most people don't realize any significant gas usage reduction. For my driving, I'd get a LOT better gas mileage with a TDI Golf. That makes no sense to me.

I changed my mind completely about their performance after seeing that automatic Jetta in November.

Plus you can get the TDI in the Jetta wagon.

As for the diesel versus hybrid arguement...

VW advertises a TDI Golf for less than $17,000. Civic hybrid is almost $20,000. With that savings, and the fact that I can get similar mileage in a car that's available in hatch or wagon makes more sense to me. I think they're both great cars, but one suits my needs better than the other. The Accord hybrid is very nice, but almost the same price as an STI.

Besides, with the savings, the possibility exists for a few performance upgrades. Becky and I were looking at an old VW Caddy/pickup the weekend. Shame I probably wouldn't fit into one.
