Default Driving From Knoxville to Raleigh, which way to go?

I've never been to the area, so bear with me

I-40 seems like the fastest, but US441 through Great Smoky Mountains NP is supposed to be beautiful. And, of course there's US129 (the Dragon)

Which would you recommend?

Thx!

Well..

US441 is a blast, as long as the tourists don't get in the way. They usually move over when I'm there, though that could be from my Miami driving habits. You can also stop at Clingman's Dome which is one of the three highest peaks east of the Mississippi. Its around 7000ft. in elevation. Very fun road to get up to it as well. The last time I was on the road, it was a Sunday evening as the sun was setting. Didn't have anyone in front of me for miles. One of the best drives I've ever been on.

The Dragon is ok, but not scenic. The road is just too twisty to sight-see at all. Cherohala is also great, though too far south for it to be worthwhile and practical.

Hope this helps.

East would be best I'm thinking. You could go west but it would be, like, 8000 miles.

When will you be getting to Raleigh? Depends on if you want teh scenery or teh twisties as to 441 vs. 129 (Dragon).

After that, just get down to 40 and go straight to Raleigh; it's the best way to do it.

I'll be getting to Raleigh on the evening of April 16. Squidjiit is having a big party on the 17th, you should come!

But yeah, I'm more for scenery than twisties, I get all the twisties I need out here in CA.

Ah yes, I-40, with the exception of this little detour, I will drive almost the entire length of I-40 from Barstow, CA to Raleigh, NC

Uhhh, I had already made plans to come in both of the threads about the little shindig. This makes 3 threads where I'm proclaiming that I'm going to be there.
