^ this is good advice. IMO you actually have more risk with messing with the rom. JDM STi ECU's are fetching a premium now days and are not cheap if something should go wrong. Do the mechanical fix by getting the right NPS. You can swap it out with an open end wrench on the car. fwiw, i use an 02-03 wrx NPS on my JDM 6sp.

Avcs will help spool turbo faster and give better throttle response. A retune is must IMO.

But if I got my nps. And hooked it up. Then the avcs would work again. Would there be any bad effects on the motor? Just wondering becuase when I went from the 5 speed to the 6 speed (and lost the avcs) I really couldnt tell there was any difference. .. the car ran the same as far as I could tell

I'm not saying the car won't run OK, just saying if your going through the trouble of getting avcs working wouldn't you want the car to be optimized? You probably couldnt tell because the difference in gearing between the 5 speed and 6 speed changes the whole feel of the car.

I would hope tuner wouldn't charge full price to touch up your map BTW...

Could I just splice the two nps wires into each other ? So the car thinks its always in gear?

Yimisport reversed the polarity of the NPS in the ROM for my EJ207 swap. It's easy if your tuner knows what he is doing.

Everythings running sweet. I've modified the splitter so all the intercooler gets air, sorted the exhaust, got the aircon working etc. I'm happy withe the power increase but It's always nice to get a little more.
So now It's time to start fiddling.
The only problem is I can't get the ECU to go into programing mode.
I've connected the 2 green plugs and shorted the 2 pins of the white plug under the dash but the fans don't cycle and my Tactrix cable wont download the ROM.

I can get logging data fine and the cable itself will log, so it's not a problem there.
Are there any other wiring changes that need to be made?
Did you ever get this sorted out?
I am having the same problem, RomRaider will talk to the ecu but ECUFlash wont, and it wont go into test mode with or with out the white plug jumpered and the green plugs connected.

Are you just trying to do a RomRaider Tune?

I sorted my issue out, it turns out that I had pinned the test connector into the wrong pin...once I moved it all was fine. I can flash it with ECU Flash now.

although I'm in this thread already, I think this author has a detailed write up about idlers and want to find this for my soon to come second timing belt replacement.
