These are comparison shots between the kits I had laying around and a real OEM projector I retrofitted. Keep in mind these are with the Squirrel Finder bent down, so the glare is even worse in his case regardless of the fact that the beam pattern is horrible and the foreground is too lit. (I'm sure he hasn't bent them down, even though it can be done with no baking of the headlamps). I wish I hadn't spent the money on those silly kits...I ended up throwing them in the closet and running H9 bulbs until I was able to retrofit and get real OEM bowls and D2S bulbs. I'm not even trying to be one of those trolls who blabber on and on and get angry about people running HID kits, but the truth is in the photo, it just isn't good. I wish I had a photo of the projectors with the squirrel finders up to show the glare being thrown around, its unsightly. |

^ so being you have tried all and ended up with the best of, is there a guideline to how high to set the cutoff at what distance from the wall? Something I'm having trouble finding.

I used three #6 washers to obtain this cutoff. It is still sharp at 25-30 feet, but then shows a nice blue band of color from there, which loves to turn reflective road signs purple and blue at the right distance. |

It does because I bent the squirrel finder down. It is bent down in both the OEM halogen picture and the DDM picture.
You don't want to see what it looked like stock. The glare was awful. I'm sure the guy above has not even bent the finders down. These pictures also don't do the beam justice when faced with distances much further than the 15 feet from the wall in these pictures. The inconsistencies in the beam are amplified further (i.e. projected) when the focal distances are increased. Also, the foreground is horrible. With the way the bowl is designed, the foreground limiter built into the cutoff shield is useless. While the HID kit might throw light further out than the halogen, the highly illuminated foreground kills any benefit. I found myself having to blink constantly and my eyes were fatigued even only after 30 minutes of driving in darkness. The only true solution for the halogen projector that works and actually increases lighting output is an H9 bulb. I ran H9 bulbs in my car for two years before my STi retro and they were amazing. Pictures of the H9 are below. They blew the stupid HID kits out of the water. I'm not even going to go into the questionable choice of bulb color, way to ruin any positive effect of running an HID kit... Quote:

Enough of the headlight/HID talk.
Why do you all care so much? Don't give me the bull**** answer of "I'm trying to think about the on coming drivers" or "You would be upset if you couldn't see because of their POS HID's" or "Just wait until someone has an accident because of the PnP HID's" blah blah blah. Buy whatever YOU want. Let people buy what THEY want. ****. |

Here is my color modded and cleared lenses. I did this almost two years ago, I didn't mod the squirrel finder although I should give it a shot to see if would improve anything. |
