I've drive my XV just as hard in corners as my Wrx with all seasons. XV handles just as good and the tires are GREAT in my honest opinion.

Only complaint I have is I have a slight pull to the right. It's ever so slight but there. Not sure if tires or what.

Sold our '05 Baja Turbo faster than expected, so in a mad rush, I found one that met our specs (Orange limited w/Nav & Popular package 2) about 2 hours away. Wife was out running errands in my truck, so I bummed a ride from a friend and went to pick 'er up. Roland @ Faulkner Subaru in Bethlehem,PA is a car guy too.. he autoX's a BRZ, so I was happy to buy it from him, and they gave me a great price, almost at invoice. Even had the remote start already installed, saving me time!

I had been telling her that we'd have to borrow a car, and that if we were lucky, we'd find the right car by next weekend.

I just ordered a pair of underseat subs, new speakers, the sport grille, cargo nets, and husky liners, but the XV will be staying mechanically stock.

Think she's a happy camper?

She looks happy but I have to warn you, I watched the Crosstrek commercials several times now and it appears the XV makes puppies turn into old dogs within 30 seconds, oh, and you will have kids by the end of the 30 seconds as well...

forewarned is forearmed...

Though they are rare, I am starting to see them on my daily drives now...

I've had CVT equipped Premium for almost two weeks now.

I didn't have high expectations for it, but it's a nice car. Obviously it's not going to be like driving my '05 WRX, but the engine power is more than sufficient for normal driving conditions. I wish the seats were more form fitting, but overall the interior is nice, the base head unit and speakers sound reasonably good after some adjustments and everything has a solid, durable feel to it. The steering seems to have some good feel to it and I'm enjoying not having to crawl over speed bumps or worry about dips in the road anymore.

The CVT is very smooth and far superior to a traditional automatic, I'm glad I was sort of forced (due to lack of supply) into getting one. It's something you really have to try before making a decision about.

I finally watched that video, they HATED the CVT, just like Emmie Hall, and almost all the other professional reviewers.

Of course they also described the 5 speed as rubbery like a truck, with long throws, but a short shift kit takes care of most of that.

And like most professional reviewers who have their gas paid for by their employer, they think it is underpowered.

But you cannot have power, and MPG's, so something has to give somewhere...

Actually I just watched the video, and reported on what they said. I never checked to see what transmission eskimo bought, so it was not meant to be rain on anyones parade.

However, if you watch the video, you would be able to confirm that nothing I said is incorrect.

So if you cannot handle truth in the forums, go play farmville.

ps: It escapes me, but I think you mean toolbox as some kind of insult? Grow up.

I'm starting to think that reviewers are just spring loaded to say they hate all CVTs because of some bad past experience.

It is what it is, it's not a manual, but it's far better than a conventional automatic. This is the first CVT I've ever driven, but it acts exactly like what I was expecting, in all the good ways.

The fact that you dont see a problem with what you said is why you are a tool... and it is not a good thing. You will figure it out one day. Will prob hurt too.

I didn't realize they let adults with the maturity of a 14 year old post on NASOIC.

Go leap off a bridge, there are plenty to choose from on your LI commute.

PS: If you took my first post about the crosstrek commercial as a warning, you are dumb as a box of rocks. When you jump off the bridge, first tie that box of rocks around your neck. Thanks.

From Car and Driver's online review:

"Like the gas engine, the oil burner is a 2.0-liter flat-four, but this one gets a turbocharger. The compression-ignition version only gives up three ponies, but torque soars to 258 lb-ft at 1600 rpm. It’s a sweetheart. Plus, it delivers fuel economy that is roughly 25 percent better than the gas 2.0’s"

Please don't think that I'm in any way dogging on your new ride, 'cause it's soooper sweet. BUUUUTTT, (and that's a big but) I'm boycotting the Crosstrek completely til turbo comes stateside. Awesome Fuel Economy + Torque = Extra Awesomeness.

you do realize zeepers comment was meant as a tongue in cheek joke about the crosstrek commerical with the black lab that grows up and by the time the dog is old the couple has kids.

Subaru is not interested in bringing Diesels to the states anytime soon. So you'll be waiting a while.

And...

Had it for a week already. Premium 5MT. Damn great commuter in RI craptacular roads.

Actually I take all the professional reviews with a grain of salt.

Let's see, they get to drive fully loaded cars made by lexus, porsche, bmw, etc, and then they drive an Impreza.

It would be hard to view it for what it is, forgetting what the other cars cost by comparison, since they don't have to pay the difference to drive the economy car vs the luxury car, and don't have to pay for their own gas.

So they are a little car spoiled, and all cars are underpowered compared to those that get less than 20mpg!

But keep in mind, in their review of the Crosstrek they ragged on the manual transmission as well (as I noted), so I guess I should stop raining on my own parade, since I have a 5 speed.

ps: Clearly dumb as a box of rocks. I'm glad someone else noticed.

That would be sweet.. But don't hold your breath, especially with the almighty (sarcasm) hybrid being unveiled this week.

I'm OK with the CVT, just hoping (and expecting) that it'll last.

She really loves the car though, and I'm happy as well. Leather, nav, moonroof, remote start, Bluetooth, AWD, good mpg, good looks and good room for $26.5k.. Yeah, I'm happy.
