It would be good to find the exact cause, although its just noise, it would be hard to explain to the buyer when you sell the car that 'its quite common'!

My car has been making the same noise also, hard to say what it is...
I've been thinking, and been assuming it could be the a/c pump or maybe the oil pump.
second thought was maybe a loose shield or something somewhere, and as the heat expends the gasket it stops making noise..
Has anyone ever figured out what the noise actually was?

***NO it is not the throw-out bearing noise, I have had it replaced I know the sound.

Default Normal...It's normal.

Recently had my turbo replaced at 6500 miles and my car started making a similar noise.
Just picked it up from the dealer today, and they told me it is the fuel injector pump, and its normal.
Also she said the type of fuel used will affect the volume.
Good day.

had my bother rev the car while i was listening... appears to be coming from the right hand side (when facing the car), so far my money is on the AC pump, turbo is close second.

this is not TOB related noise as operating the clutch makes not difference.

Reviving this one again...

I have this on a CVT engined 2016 WRX in Aus. It started at about 10,000kms and has got steadily more noisy, im not on 18,000. I only hear it around 1000rpm, above or below that revs it goes away. Its very noisy in the car, less so when listening in the engine bay.

Yesterday I asked about it at the Dealer who unshipped the belt and ran car up. The noise was still there, so proving its not a tensioner/altenator etc.

They think its the fuel pump off the left cylinder head (on right as you look into the engine bay).

They ran up a Levorg so we could hear if that also had the noise and it did. So they say its normal. Im not convinced...

Anyone had anything catastrophic happen with higher miles on these cars with this noise?

The fuel pump is in the tank. Unless you relocated your gas tank, it's not the fuel pump.

The dealer said there was a secondary fuel pump that runs off a cam off the left cylinder head to get the pressure the direct injection needs to run.

Ive read a bunch of stuff the past few days about BRZ/86's that have a much louder chirping noise but it does sound quite like that in many ways, tho mine is defo bassier than theirs. It seems its fuel quality related and any ethanol at all in the fuel means it will squeak. I only run top quality fuel, but will try a different brand and see if its quieter.

This is a Scion with their noise, there is a lot of info on line saying this is a fuel pump noise:

My noise, and I believe the OP of this threads noise too, is not quite the same as this video. Mine certainly not as high pitched or constant, its only there at around 1000 revs and goes away when the revs drop or rise, or at least the noise isnt heard due to what ever harmonics are allowing it to be heard at 1000 revs.

I think it has to do with fuel.. I exclusively ran 91 shell and the one time I ran petro 94 (winter time - so prob had some winterizing crap in the fuel), the next day I had this same noise.. loud at startup, gone after a few minutes. its gotten a bit lower in volume as I've put around 4-5 tanks of shell through since but the sound is definitely still there. probably that secondary fuel pump referenced in this thread.

I have this noise too. Started to notice it this fall/winter with about 16k mi (owned since new) on a 2015 WRX. Noise varies in audibility depending on temperature and humidity (louder on humid/cooler days, especially in the snow). It isn't loud like the BRZ/FR-S crowd experiences, and between my wife and I, I think I'm the only one that notices.

I was able to get it to go away for a little bit by periodically filling up on Ethanol Free Gas from the Issaquah, WA Grange but last time I filled up there the noise persisted through the tank. Otherwise every fill up is from Shell (WA 92)

Had the car in to two separate dealerships and they both said the noise is normal DI HPFP noise (Carter Shoreline and a dealership in Renton to remain unnamed). Car now has 32k mi on it. Funny thing is we have a 17 FXT w/ 17k mi on it and no noise from it so far.

Had my throwout bearing replaced as well. New "Updated" part is still making the noise.

I feel a little more confident that others have the same noise and that it may well be fuel related. I'll try some BP Ultimate and see if that lessens it.

Its defo not the throw out brg, Im running a CVT.
