Does anyone have the part number for the oem dual usb? I finally pulled the trigger on a radio, and have the harness on the way.

Got the steering wheel to work. Anyone have a clue as to the issue with very faint audio. Can't manage to control EQ settings or volume control. Overall everything seems to work fine. Much appreciated, thanks!

There is also a new part number that is interchangeable: 86257AL200

For this USB hub, does the center console need to be removed or is it possible to just pop it out to swap it in?

Returned the radio and got a new one. Model is "ff667um", came from a 2016 forester. I'm curious as to whether I need any additional wire harnesses, other wise I'll be leaving the bottom connections and the 8 pin unused. I already have the Breakout harness and the dual usb port.

I'm trying to keep run it on my 2016 Premium, has no HK. I see from previous posts people have them working but have not stated whether they have HK or any additional things other than the harness for back up and usb...

That entire bottom piece with the "FT00" sticker on it is the useless starlink module. It can be removed and is not part of the radio itself. My unit came with one too, i just took it off, its garbage...

Quick write up on my experience doing the swap.

Parts Required
-Headunit - Part Number: 86201FJ681 from a 2017 Crosstrek. It has silver trim around the A/C Controls and shows model FM685UM on the front of the unit
-Dual USB - Part Number: 86257AL200 (this is the same as part 86257AL100)
-Breakout Harness from AutoHarnessHouse

Install Notes:
-Headunit: The biggest pain for the install is the side bolts that hold the radio in. I would just follow this video
. I was able to get the driver side bolt out with only removing the small trim piece but had to end up dropping (not unplugging) the airbag when reinstalling that bolt which is the recommendation from the video.

The vents/trim above the radio pop off to expose 2 additional bolts that hold in the radio. With all 4 bolts out, it is a matter of popping the radio out carefully to get access to the wire harnesses on the back that need to be removed for both the radio and the A/C controls. Once all of the harnesses are unplugged, just pull the rest of the way out, there are a few wires run over top of it that need to be moved out of the way but no need to unplug. After you remove the head unit, I would undo the tape on the USB cable (black cable with right angle connector). For some reason that USB cable is tied together behind the head unit and since the USB plug is higher on the new head unit, it wouldn't reach.

The reverse camera didn't have the grid lines on. I am not sure if the previous owner turned these off or if that is the default setting. Holding the Home button while pressing the Audio/Tune button 5 times. There is a hidden menu that pops up with additional camera settings which includes adding grid line and removing the warning message.

-Dual USB: Take up the center console to get to this. I didn't have any luck popping it out with the console in and the wires wouldn't have been long enough. Take out the 2 screws at the bottom of the storage compartment of the console. Remove the e-brake boot (pull up to pop out the 2 push fasteners) to expose a screw just below the shifter ring. There is one additional push fastener on the other side below the shifter ring, gently lifting up the console will pop this out and allow you to tilt the console back to gain access to the USB hub. The dual USB hub has the same 2 connectors as the stock single USB so it is a simple swap.

Total Cost for this for me was $300. That was $130 for the head unit (used), $125 for the dual USB hub (new), and $45 for the breakout harness.

Pro:
-Interface is way smoother
-The time is takes to boot to play music from USB is about 10 seconds instead of almost a minute for the original head unit.
-Everything works: Rear camera, Sat, USB, steering controls
-Looks OEM but less shiny black plastic that scratches really easy.

Con:
-Not very cost effective
-Difficult to get the head unit out

While I agree that you can't use it in a car that doesn't have the factory wiring and antennas for it, that "garbage" telematics module has a MSRP of more than $600. So definitely worth trying to resell it on eBay. The same P/Ns were used across many different 2016-2018 models.

Those are the only things you needed -- the harness to redirect your OEM rear camera to the 5-pin socket on the 7" HU, and the OEM dual USB pod in place of your single USB pod.

The harman/kardon system is only in models with 7" HUs. So people who had a 6.2" HU (which is the majority of those doing this swap) will not have had the h/k system. The new 7" HU must come from a car that likewise did not have the h/k system.

I suppose someone with a non-nav 7" might want to transplant a nav 7". In that case, they would need to find a new HU that is analogous (get a non-h/k 7" HU if their car is non h/k, or get an h/k 7" HU if their car has h/k). I think they would only need to add the OEM nav GPS antenna -- no other harnesses and no need to change the USB pod.

I've been looking to upgrade my crappy stock headunit from my 2015 WRX, I've got the CV629UM. I can get a FT0054A from a 17' STi for dirt cheap. Anyone know what would be involved it getting this to work (camera, wheel controls, USB)? It seems like everyone here is just upgrading from the 6.2" to the 7" starlink, not anything prior. Just looking for some help in getting this to work.

Just finished my install last night. Completed in less than an hour. I was concerned (as you may have seen my earlier posts) about the digitizer lines that were visible before the install. The lines are visible when the unit is powered off or if there is direct sunlight on the screen. The screen is bright, contrast is great in both night and day conditions. At this point the lines are something I can live with.

As far as the unit itself... I should have done this earlier! It's absolutely a night a day difference. Bluetooth connects immediately and picks up wherever I left off on spotify. Everything reacts 5x faster. The ability to have the head unit read my text messages is an added bonus I was not aware of. One thing I was surprised by is the improved FM reception. During my 15 minute commute, the old unit would pick up and drop HD radio signal at least 40 times (annoying the the point where I disabled HD). Now I can drive to work without losing HD signal once.

I can't say I notice much improvement in the audio output, nor was I expecting to.

For the minimal investment I made in this upgrade I am very happy. Even if I spent triple what I already have ($70 with the breakout harness) I would be satisfied.

If you're on the fence, go on ebay or car-part and order one. You'll be happy you did.

shoot svxdc an email. I'd be surprised if he hasn't come across this combo.

The steering wheel buttons aren't the same for the 2015 WRX and the 2017 STi. I suspect this will mean that you either will lose your steering wheel controls or you'll need to swap those also.

FT0054A is not a model number. That's a type # that is used across a dozen different Subaru HU models. Need the number printed on the front (below bottom left corner of the touchscreen, in fainter ink than everything else), or the Subaru P/N (862...).

A critical thing to check is that the new HU did not come from a car that has the OEM harman/kardon amplifier and speaker system (since those will only work with the corresponding h/k amp).

This. You would need the 2016-2018 style SWC buttons. I haven't looked closely, but that may very well mean you'd need a whole newer wheel too (you probably can't just retrofit the newer SWC button pods into your original 2015 wheel).

Yes, technically it's possible to put together harnesses to adapt much of your 2015's radio harnesses (power/speakers, aux, mic, AM/FM antenna) to the new HU. The other bits (USB, XM antenna) would require OEM parts (i.e., very expensive).

Bottom line: definitely won't be cheap, and not worth the cost/effort IMHO. Go with a good aftermarket HU.

Got the part #86201VA671. Thanks for the Info! The steering wheel isn't a necessity, as long as bluetooth, XM, and the camera work, I'd be happy. I was hoping to upgrade for cheaper than aftermarket, but if it's going to be expensive, I guess I'll start saving my pennies.
