From Ny to Tx
Right, so right now I live in Ny and I'm planing a big move to Tx ( Galveston area)in the end of June. I was just wondering how the scene was down there? I looked for a few pages on Facebook to see if there were any groups who do meets but found none. Also, how lax is the emissions for tx? I realize ill have to get my car re inspected once I move. Any info would be appreciated thank you.

For the inspection part if you don't have a cel on you shouldn't have a problem. Most places don't do a visual inspection.

If your car has current registration, you should be ale to get by with that until it expires. As far as emissions, make sure you have minimal if any, vacuum leaks, you have a working gas cap, and no CEL's. aside from that you should be good.

Inspection:
Houston law technically requires: Visual inspection (lights, emissions equipment) Computer inspection (OBD-II diagnostics check) Hardware inspection (horn, gas cap, etc) Emissions inspection via sniffer (2wd cars or pre-OBDII cars) Because our cars are AWD, we can bypass the sniffer - however you still need to pass visual inspection. Determining if the inspection station actually cares or not, the will look for cats in the exhaust to make sure emissions equipment hasn't been tampered with. This is more luck of the draw - my full catless STi has passed inspection every time. My GF's catless STi failed visual inspection, but passed everything else. To get it to pass (you can re-inspect within 14 days at the same station for free) she had to put the stock downpipe back on. Let me know if you got any more questions. |

He will also need the pink inspection form. Since it is out of state car, most places will be more strict with this initial inspection.
