Default iDataLink Maestro RR2 first look

Hey guys so I found this video from a YouTube channel I follow called 5 Star Car Stereo. They made a video talking about the new iDataLink Maestro RR2. As far as I can tell they are the only ones right now with a video talking about it.

Also I assume since they are talking about it, iDataLink is finally allowing the information to be out there. Which means that the iDataLink Maestro RR2 will be coming out soon.

So if you have been waiting for the Maestro RR2 like I have, I'm sure we wont have to wait much longer

I am deeply awaiting the iDataLink Meastro for the 2019 WRX Premium for some time now. Once it is out, I can finally install the Alpine Halo 9 to replace the godawful stock headunit! Please.... please be soon!

I am so sick of my stock HK audio and I cancelled my order with AutoHarnessHouse in anticipation of this being released!

I am trying to prep and procure things now prior to trading an MY16 wrx limited for an MY20 limited. I have already purchased a kenwood dnx996xr and it seems like a long time to not have a solution for maestro products for 2 model years now. What is happening?

No Maestro Solution for 2 years? I've been running a Maestro RR1 for 2 years with my Kenwood DNX995. You can use the RR1 unless there some feature you need from the RR2. Last update I heard was March/April for the RR2.

Plus I believe they are also coming out with a generation 3 Subaru harness for the RR2. Oh well, my current work around is to use bluetooth to stream from my phone when the stock USB wigs out and drops both my Android phone AND my MP3 memory stick.

EDIT: The wait was LONGER for the MKVI Golf platform... Ask me how I know this, lol.

are you saying that I can have all features I have currently in my MY16 wrx limited with kenwood dnn991hd and the maestro rr1 less the tpms monitoring?

- factory backup camera
- steering wheel controls
- idatalink gauges

maestro has said they will not support a jerry-rigged configuration...

Just talked with rep at iDataLink and he said the engineer was targeting to have them available before summer. They are working on it.

How many times have we heard "Soon, very soon"? IIRC they were suposed to have something in early 2019, then it was summer 2019, now it is summer 2020...

In the mean time, my poor Kenwood DNX891HD just sits there collecting dust. EDIT: My luck, it won't be supported for some strange reason!

Is the RR2 ready for the 2019+ WRX with HK yet? On the website, it appears to be with a firmware update as of June 29, 2020.

MY20 wrx limited with 7" harman kardon audio. I just attempted the install today using the maestro rr2 and rSU2 harness. Maestro rr2 firmware was updated and kenwood DNX996xr serial number used during process.

Everything works (I.e. gauges, steering wheel controls, etc.)

But..... no sound from the Hardan kardon Audio. I have installed an aftermarket amp and subwoofer which works via the sw preamp rca output(s) okay. I have connected the telemetric unit and buried it in the dash lower center area behind the cig/12v panel.

First, the instructions need some revisions, especially if an amateur is attempting the install.

1. Using the maestro rSU2 harness kit the top section of the instructions notate to attachthe solid blue power antenna wire from the their harness to new head unit harness power antenna wire.

* there is no solid blue wire from the maestro rSU2 harness.

2. The instructions notate that the maestro rSU2 harness solid brown starlink wire should be attached on the vehicle side to an 8 pin connector (pink or white/blue).

*there is no connector left over during install that is 8 pin. There is a 12 pin connector with single solid blue wire. I am guessing this is the vehicle starlink connector.

3. The instruction diagram of the HVAC connector actually is reversed if they are trying to represent the PIN number orientation as shown. Pin 1 and 2 (red and blue) are actually on the right hand side if looking at the connector and not the left side.

So after a full day in the vehicle in 90+ degree heat adding USB ports on the rear of center console, installing my jdm hdmi/2xusb combo/cig/12v panel I used in my MY16, and other items; I finally power on the kenwood head unit hoping to hear audio - but no

In the instruction diagram it shows in Step 2 that rSU2 harness green connectors as NC; assuming this refers to "not connected," which I left unconnected. The wire color is blue/white and continuity test with an ohm meter leads to the rSU2 harness 28 pin connector pin 26 if it means anything...

I am pretty bummed that I have no sound other than my aftermarket amp/subwoofer. I am guessing that I do not have to change any settings on the kenwood dnx996xr to enable the other preamp rca outputs to function, or do I??

I did not remove the telemetrics unit; Why would I need that item?

I just checked again; there is no 8 pin connector behind radio, but the grey 16 pin connector of the telemetrics box pin # 8 is white/blue though ***65533;***65533;

I guess I am the guinea pig and proof reader for idatalink Now... didn't they review instructions and test this configuration before releasing...?

Further searching I found that the single blue wire coming out of the 12-pin pigtail on the vehicle side to the Hk radio may be for where the radio will remain on after the car has turned off until the driver door is opened.

First off if you go on iDataLink's website, they do list the maestro RR2 under 2018+ Subaru. It's been on there site since a week or so before 4th of July. But and this is a BIG BUT, iDataLink has not officially said that the maestro RR2 supports 2018+ Subaru's, even though they list it on there site. Crutchfield doesn't list the maestro RR2 as compatible either.

Beacuse iDataLink has not officially said anything, this is why I have been waiting to post any news on the compatibly of maestro RR2.

Here is what I think is happening:

iDataLink is updating both there website and SU2 harness before they officially announce that the maestro RR2 supports 2018+ Subaru's.
I also think that iDataLink is waiting till all their distributors/resellers/dealers have the updated harness (if they are updating the harness) before making the officially announce.

From what I have seen from iDataLink, they like to have everything ready/working before they make an official announcement.

I too am waiting for the maestro RR2 to be compatible but until iDataLink makes an official announcement I will continue to wait.

how many people have been waiting and searching; then finally saw the "complete coverage" information listed, install guide, and new firmware for the 2018-2020 wrx which included hk amplifier on the maestro website and went out and purchased the rr2 and rSU2 harness immediately like I did?

Official or unofficial, am I wrong in thinking that revenue was made from providing false information...?

When I was doing my upgrade on my 2018 Forester I followed the links on this forum and at 12voltdata
A forum member here gave me some tips on an unofficial as he was employed at Maestro. I followed the tips and made a successful instal of a Kenwood 9904s, kept the front speakers and only two t-taps on two can bus lines as I kept the telemetric unit.
If you think about all the different makes of cars and possible configurations. But following both forums gave me the knowledge to hook up the device. All I wanted was CarPlay and you would think the engineers at the car manufactures would talk to the software engineers that Multi Function Display should give more readouts such as volts, various temps etc its all there.
Reminds me of the time seat belts became mandatory the car manufactures were kicking and screaming now they tell you how many airbags and coffee cup holders.

Contacted idatalink and flashed a new firmware and added the 6 pin harness to the rr2 with 3 wires spliced to the another 2 wires clipped of another harness on the rr2 and I now have audio.

Was getting clipping audio at high volume with the hk sub connected so I disconnected it since I added a 10" amp/sub.

So far so good.

You will have to contact idatalink so they can put the firmware in your web link account to use.

So i got the rr2 and su2 last week and went and tried to install it, mostly working...gauges all work, steering wheel controls work...back up camera does not work and the HU stays on when the ignition is off, for some reason getting constant 12v on the red wire after ignition is off. Also the rr2 install guide says something about 8pin connector for starlink wire...my car does not have an 8pin connector so not sure where to tap into for starlink...? Anyway hopefully I can figure this out since idatalink is closed for the weekend.
