LW Flywheel + LW Crank Pulley

Alright

I know my lightweight flywheel throws an engine misfire code, because it changes the timing slightly or something.

I was told that having a LW flywheel and LW crank pulley is just too much.

I already have a Fidanza 9.5# flywheel and want to add either an UR pulley or a Perrin (had one and sold it because of previous information) I just want a little more pickup and to be able to rev match a little easier.

Anyone heard anything like this?

Don't do the flywheel either. CEL codes, higher rpms need to start smoothly...not worth it.

Buy the biggest BOV ever though.

I already have the flywheel, have for about 2 years.

I have the fidanza flywheel on my ej207. I had a Worx pulley on my ej205 and decided that it would be better to now use it with the new flywheel. I don't like the idea of turning a motor to 8k+ rpm and not having some sort of dampening on there.

If you have the flywheel already, I'd skip the pulley.

I had GFB pullies and a JUN flywheel together at one point on a stock ej205. It was AWESOME, really made the motor rev happy, easy rev matching, quick shifting! However after having the motor rebuilt i started throwing crank sensor codes, positon codes etc.

Put big heavy crank pulley back on and it went away. So you canr always get away with it. By far the biggest difference is the flywheel so if you have to choose one go with the flywheel IMO.

Also your flywheel is very very light at 9.5lbs., you sure that thing can soak up enough heat? probably not the best for drag racing.. ive put hot spots in larger flywheels which means its trashed and you cant use it again, turns into a $400 paper weight

as for the comment about spun bearing.. who spun their bearings and contributed it to using a certain flywheel or pulley? I must have missed that thread?

Isn't replacing the stock harmonic damper (pulley) bad? Subarus do not come with a harmonic damper or balancer like some other vehicles do. For other manufacturers' vehicles, this is a legitimate concern. Proof:

I'll bet anyone that "John J. Mergen" had absolutely nothing to do with the design and/or engineering of any Subaru motor... EVER.

That rubber layer in the stock pulley isn't there just for looks (see: torsional vibration).

Seriously,just stop.Nothing wrong with a lightweight flywheel or crank pulley.Used together, especially with such a light flywheel,can be overkill and cause alot of phantom misfires.Most people run around a 13-14lb flywheel.Lightned flywheel can be a great upgrade when the OEM clutch and flywheel need to be replaced.Makes the car very zippy and rev happy.

9.5lb flywheel is too light , you may get away with a 14lb or something like that , but that combo will give you cels. ( but as far as anyone has posted, no damage, still I would personally not risk it )

I've had my Perrin LW crank pulley for a few months now. One of the best upgrades yet! Not only is throttle response sharper, but mileage has gone up about 2mpg across the board.

Ive been running my exedy lwfw for like 3+ years now with no cel's. Ive been running that in conjunction with the perrin lwcp for just over a year now with no problems at all. I beat on it too

Hmmm

Yeah I have a PPG gearbox with ACT HD Clutch (street disc) and a Fidanza LW flywheel (9.5#) Saying this, I already get phantom misfires on 3 cylinders. However I suppose it is not enough of a problem to actually illuminate the CEL.

I think I might try a LW crank pulley for a little and see how it does.

Supposedly its like dropping a 100 pounds off your car with the pulley, not enough for the butt dyno but im sure it plays a role in why my stock turbo car is so fast

It may have something to to with each individual car. I've read many times that most people have issues with less than 14lbs.

I don't know what makes my car (and some others) a bit different.

I have an 04 WRX that has 92k miles, and a Cusco 10lb flywheel since 60k. No problems. Although if it sounds odd, the car seems to have gotten used to the flywheel. The rpm's drop slow(er) over the 30,000 miles.
