01 RS. Shifter rattles a lot. Lots of wind noises from those retarded windows. Some other rattles too. Gears grind (yes, clutch is down to the floor).

faulty A/C resistor from the first day, and creaks from the sunroof once in while...and the wind noise from the mirrors but no big deal there...
oh and the one major problem...it didn't come with a turbo!

Talking

I waited for my 2001. I wanted the issues with the '98 shortblock/overheating fixed, the problems with MAF on the '99 and O2 stuff on the '00.

So far, I've had no problems with my '01. Fantastic and it probably took them a few years to get it right. Just wish it was green like the early '98 model.

AC busted seal on condensor at 37,000. Hit big bump, smelled freon. AC stopped. What does a rally car need with AC anyway. I removed it all promptly.

Cool

Stolen twice. The second time stolen it was driven through a gate. Nothing major damage and was covered by insurance. And now... Nothing but troubles. Both front joints hace broken (joint is a straight translation from Finnish to English). Now my right front ball bearing is cracking up. My both front brakes are a little stuck. And ToDaY my clutch broke and needs to be replaced. Cost lots mkmkmk here in Finland. Trailed it to a work shop. The cost evaluation is over 550 USD for brakes and clutch.! Some rust damage on the sides, mostly because of the being salted here in winter. Major oil leak, caused by sealing "vanished". One battery has failed and I've whistling windows. BUT nothing lasts forever. I have over 100k at the meter so no wonder. Overall I like subie a lot, today I wish I've never seen a one...

2001 RS currently 15,000 miles.

Not a single problem besides:
1) Exhaust rattles
2) Driver's side door squeaks a little
3) There is a little defect with the sunroof switch. (No, not when you actually have to push twice to close it)
4) I can feel the clutch getting weaker.

1. O2 sensor gone been waiting for recall notice, which finally came in the mail.
2. Engine knocking at 3k rpm, hopefully it is the cam tensioner belt thingy majig, just started yesterday.
3. Worn out stock tires at 7k miles.

5. Speedo off 5 mph since day 1.

I see yet another case of a faulty cam tensioner pulley (Peaty's post).

How many other people have had their cam tensioners fail during the first 20K miles? Our family's new Outback (2.5L) had the cam tensioner fail at 9000 miles.

99 RS

Smashed driver side---fixed by insurance and had my suspension changed.
Recently wet passenger floor.
Seemed to get the problem fixed, the body shop that has my truck was looking in my trunk and realized the rear drain tube for the sunroof didn't run out of the car. Moved the tube and now things are OK.
