My dealer threw in the two-year 24,000 maintenance due to the delay and poor communication from subaru.

The bad:
CVT take some getting used to.
Visors are mediocre and don't have lights, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting based on this forum.
No dual climate controls as they had in my impala but not a huge deal.
The doorhandles - the chrome is only on part of the handle which Is not the sharp look I was expecting.
The opening of the trunk is narrow so it makes it a little harder to get things in.
The cold engine light keeps coming on.

The good:
Great handling and a smoother ride than I expected.
The iPod/iPhone connectivity is awesome.
I haven't read the manual yet, but I already think the navigation unit is great.
The seats are amazingly comfortable. I think of this every single time I get in the car.
The trunk is bigger than I thought.

Overall, I think it's a great car and I'm very happy with it.
The blue engine temp indicator light is going to come on and stay on until the engine reaches operating temperature. Ignore it and drive the car normally (it is not necessary to idle the engine to warm it up before driving, just take it easy for a few miles while it warms up).

There is really no need for that light, although if it lights up after you've been out driving a while that would indicate a problem.

Did you order the car before 10/31? If so, which gift did you pick?

This is a recurring topic in the thread. I don't think anyone knows for sure yet.

I'm going to see what the insurance is like on the Sonata, if its good as the Subaru or better, things might turn over. I already racked up about $400 on car rental and gas. This money should be going into my car.

Nothing says class like a Hyundai. I kid, I kid...

I am curious if the limited radio and the premium stereo are interchangeable.

On another note, noticed the Impreza subwoofer kit install has to be the most intrusive and inconvenient install EVER. By making the interior walls "thinner" to improve interior space, there is not enough room to put a subwoofer in the traditional "back corner" so the factory kit puts it behind the left passenger's seat. We lose a big chunk of the rear cargo area plus effectively make the "fold flat" left side of the rear seat useless... Plus, the dealer techs are going to have to remove dash panels, head unit and trim pieces from front-to-back. [shudder] I can just imagine the issues with squeaks, pinched wiring, loose trim pieces, etc. down the road on that one...

Just crank up to sub-woofer and you will never notice it. 8-)

If that is in fact the case. I was thinking about ordering one when the car arrived. Nevermind!

I'll probably replace it with something from next year's Double DIN models, preferably with navigation. I think the non-navigation stereo was used in prior cars, so it's possible that the trim kits for the 2008-2011 car might also work for this car. I think one or two of the prior kits had a single DIN option. Personally I'd prefer not to use a kit or other filler for the oversized opening, so I'm hoping the JDM 2012 Impreza uses a standard Double DIN stereo and that it might be possible to import the trim piece, but it looks like the Canadian car with the aftermarket Pioneer stereo Subaru used the oversized trim found on the US cars. I still have some questions about what I'm going to do with the microphone and the armrest inputs, but most of my other questions were answered in threads like http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749402

This is quite possibly one of the most amusing things I have read on these forums in quite some time. I can't tell if you're being serious or not, but you're really concerned about what you think, or others think about the potential quality of a sun visor in your car?

Nobody in the history of mankind has ever bought a Subaru because they want to project some kind of class image, in fact, most people buy Subaru's for the opposite reason; because they want a no-frills, down to earth car.

Subaru enjoys a strange place in the car industry, a place where their buyers can typically afford a more expensive vehicle, but they instead opt for a brand that is less about perceived image and more about functionality.

BMW might be a brand worth shopping for you in the future.

You do know that the sub-woofer for the 5-door is removable. I think that it involves three twist off knobs and then detaching the electrical plug.

Installation instructions can be found here:

I don't know, but if so that would be great! The salesman said that the limited system was not available on the premium. Am not loving my Premium Hatch audio. I adjusted all the settings to the best I could get. Rear speakers sound muffled up front. I miss the old Legacy speakers that were mounted high enough to get the sound forward. You can tell I'm not real techy about this, but the ears know!

Still happily racking up the miles on my silver 5 door premium. I typically have major buyers remorse after any major purchase, but I have nothing to complain about. I love this car.

Sooo I finally test drove a new Impreza. It was a base model 5 door.....not quite the sport premium that I ordered...but I really just wanted to get a sense of the car and the driving experience of the 5 speed.

I have read some pretty poor reviews on the 5 speed. I thought it did pretty well. Smooth shifting....good clutch feel and I buried the tach a few times close to redline. The tranny and engine resonded well.

The interior blew me away. The space is incredible....nd the seats are super comfortable. I also noticed the amazing viibility....felt like I was in a fish bowl.

I am now even more anxious for my sport 5 speed to arrive....arghhhhh

What's the difference in the 5 door Sport and the 5 Door LTD (non Sport)?

So, 400 miles later I am home with my car.

I really like the cvt better than the 4eat that was in my Baja.
I like the way it drives and handles
I got about 25mpg on my first tank, mostly interstate but a lot of that was interstate driving in St Paul and Minneapolis where my speed was all over the place.
I'm on my second tank now, all interstate driving around 75mph with a horrible headwind and it is showing 23 mpg avg. Hopefully that will get better as I get it broken in.

A couple of things I can't figure out is why my contacts from my phone won't show up on the handsfree calling, and also the BT audio doesn't list the artist and album info that my phone shows.

Overall, I love it and am very happy.

I ordered the car in late October. I picked the extended warranty- I put a lot of miles on the car, so for me it seemed the best. The dealer is giving me the maintenance in addition. I figured I would throw that info out there in case it helps someone else.
