Tempting indeed. My only hesitation is because for just a little more money one could buy a decent aftermarket head unit (no nav, no DVD, etc) with better sound. However that means going with an SWC to maintain steering controls and the 3 vehicles I've gone that route with have sort of disappointed me because of laggy response. It would be nice to just pop something 100% compatible like this.

That has been covered about a page back. I purchased from the same guys, hopefully should be here this week.

Just a warning, this is the European model, so no HD radio and no dedicated satellite button. However you can still access sat by using the Mode button in your steering wheel.

Someone will snag it quick. That's a great deal including the SAT radio module and goodies!

My thoughts exactly. Just got a call from my apartment. Said a package arrived with Chinese on it and no apartment number. Luckily they put my last name on it haha. I'll try to get some pics up of it when I get home.

Got it all hooked up and it works fine. As stated, no HD radio for the Euro version.

A few surprises though.

1. It seems I cannot access Sat radio even from the Mode button on the steering wheel.
2. It has limited read capacity for the USB drive as stated earlier in the thread

Oh well, it is still a hell of a lot nicer than the stock HU.

This! It's still a great HU. And thieves won't give it a second glance, worth it's weight in gold for that alone!

Now you just have to get a rear camera hooked up. I'm in the process of trying to choose the right camera...we'll see

Haha I agree. The screen alone was worth it. Really adds that extra touch that these interiors were missing.

So what is the best model to get that has the HD radio, Sat, and does not have the limited USB file/folder read capability? I may keep an eye out for one of those.

This should keep me from getting an expensive HU for a while. Love the fact it is plug and play, and works with everything perfectly.

Get the connector from SVXdc and pick up a Rydeen MINy. works great and looks stock.

I bought the rear garnish from Subaru with the cut out for the stock camera. As you can see, the MINy is barely visible in the stock location.

John

edit: the car was pretty dirty when I took those pics.

Cam looks good. I'll have to think about that one. Right now I don't mind the old fashioned look behind you to back up.

Anyone ever find the best aspect ratio to crop pictures to fit the screen perfectly for screen savers?

Also anyone try messing with the audio/video out? Is there any way to hook video up to this thing? Wouldn't mind for passengers for long road trips.

Agreed. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have spent the extra $1500 and got the Ltd edition over the premium. I just really didn't want leather seats. But, this HU, leather seats / SW / shifter, auto climate control / headlamps, backup camera. Truth be known that's a bargain for $1500. Oh well...

All of the 4.3" screen units have the file/folder limitation from what I've gathered. If you find different, post up!

I do see we've got an extra NTSC video input, but I'd bet it's in lockout unless the car is stopped / parked (without hacking.) I'm sure it's doable, so again if you (or anyone else) find any info post up.

I put the Forester version in my Impreza, nothing is locked out because it gets speed info from the can bus, which the impreza doesn't utilize. It uses vss, so that is permanently disabled on my car

Get that video in working. Bonus points if you can video in with an iPod classic or through USB. I know SVXdc discovered the inputs and pins, maybe he can weigh in on if this is possible.

Lol! You're expecting this 50 year old to "cut the frontier?"

More than likely won't be me, it'll be one of the "young'ns"

But you're right, SVXdc is the man when it comes to figuring this stuff out. I know that there IS an extra NTSC video input along with the standard connection for backup camera on my HU. It's do-able for sure.

Edit: truth be told it's just as easy to pipe the audio in from my iPad and watch the video while you're "roll'n." Just need to a good mount....

I can tell you now this WON'T be possible because of stupid apple restriction on their devices. It isn't even possible on the newest Navigation HU which has Composite input. Or get an aftermarket HU with that type of function.

The video input is easy. SVXDc has the harness so it will give you yellow composite input. Your device will need to have Composite output for it to work of course. It's more hassle than it worths.

Truth be known, you're right... more hassle than it's worth. I'm sure we can just pipe audio in via "aux" from an iPad / iPod / iPhone and watch the video on the device itself. MUCH better screen resolution anyway. Right?

I'm on a quest for a good iPad mount. I tried to give http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091DQ9AM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, but no joy (pun intended.) Sent it back...

Yup! I rather get a mount. Try to look for a cup holder mount. Those usually works better. And bluetooth connection will probably be better

I went with the MINy. Happened to be what the local place had in stock. It comes with enough wire to get to the front of the car and plugs into the harness that SVXdc sells. Therefore, there was no cutting necessary. I cleared the power lead near the camera and grounded the ground wire on a bolt used to attach the trunk lid. It gets power from the lead coming off the HU. I am pretty happy with the picture the camera projects and it seems to work fine in the dark with the backup lights. I had mentioned in another thread that I cut a piece of flat aluminum to attach the camera to, and used Velcro to stick the aluminum to the hole through the trunk. That way, I didn't need to drill any holes and break the paint. Plus, I can remove it from the inside for adjustment if I desire to.

Sounds pretty simple. So you just need the Rydeen Miny, SVXdc's harness? Run the power from the harness to the camera and ground the camera in the back. That was it? I may try this as well. Just not sure how I feel about the blocky camera on the back of a silver hatch. Too bad we don't have a key cylinder like the trunks do, that's a pretty stealthy mount.

It powers right out of the HU if you want it to. IIRC, you need to specify that when you order the harness so that lead is included. You need to insulate the red wire in the back, as you don't need to connect that to anything. The most difficult part is just getting the wire from front to back, but that is not horrible either. There is also a ground wire on David's harness and I put that under one of the screws on the HU mounting bracket.
