Not if you want to keep the oem look, which I did. I'm happy with my purchase.

A bonus is that the bluetooth works much better, it picks up the call right away.
With the stock headunit, it would pick up the call, radio would come back on, then go back to the call. So it would take 3 seconds for you to start talking.
weird i never had the delay problem with my non-4.3 unit. hopefully the 4.3 unit im getting doesnt do it.

First, the other lead I was thinking of in my previous post is for the illumination of the dash to day time brightness when the lights are on.

To your comment. Yes, you are correct, and I am well aware of that. In fact, I have said so in other posts. I obtained a CM631UD because that is what I wanted. Further, several people have complained of the factory nav not being so user friendly. I don't know, but I really didn't want that unit. I also didn't want to have to adapt the SWC's, 3.5mm jack, USB jack, BT mic, all of which would be necessary with aftermarket, or abandon them in lieu of what the AM comes with. I wanted plug and play. As I said, I got what I wanted. Now I'll be able to add the BU camera.

Since the OP asked about PNP, I was simply trying to inform him.

You can get a HU with front USB and Aux lol. Does this unit still gives out bad sounds aka not enough power?

You need the serius sat radio adapter from the dealer. Hooks into the existing unit, but it is about 350$. Seems like it would be cheaper to hook an aftermarket unit that comes with the antenna and unit. Mine was 100$ and had the antenna, FM transmitter, remote, et cetera. I bought an extra antenna that I stealth installed into my 02rex so I can swap between subys without paying for XMsirius twice.

I know. I did my homework.

It sounds more clear at volumes above 30, where the original would start to distort. Otherwise, pretty similar. It had the same stupid EQ and loudness settings, which got turned off.
I'm happy with it.

I think it sounds much better, but I am only using the signal to feed an alpine ktp445u amp. But the output had much cleaner signal

I have been considering that same amp. Where did you locate it, and are you satisfied with it?

It seems resonable for what it is. I'm not looking for lots of bass so I don't want a sub. Just a bit more power to the exsisting speakers.

I will find the pictures or the thread if I posted one and post them here.

I originally had the gain set to 1/2, but when I installed the new radio I dropped it down to about 1/3, sounds better because the white noise is gone now

Good info on the gain settings. Thanks.

BTW, my question regarding where you located it pertains to where in the car, as opposed to Crutchfield. Did you use the power lead for the HU as Alpine advertizes you can?

Wiring is not a concern to me. That is, for me, a piece of cake. Everything I have read suggests the wires that come with it are too short so I expect to need to extend those.

I am in the process of getting the harness from DC for a camera and the eventual amp install. I'll probably wait until I have good weather and do it all at once though.

Just scored a 2012 Nav unit for $375. Pretty excited. Now I have to find out how to update it with different map database.

wires are plenty long, i should have actually cut off 6" on both sides, but I'm just stuffing them under the radio/behind the HVAC controls. I made a bracket, zip tied it to the metal supports, and zip tied the amp to it. it is a perfect fit

yes, i just tapped into the power/ground/remote lead for the power/turn on signal for the amp. I didn't use the antenna power because that is only active with the radio mode. top of my head, i don't remember what i used for the remote. SVXd told me what to use, i might still have the email.

Just got mine installed! Love it! I got it from car-parts.com and It was pretty beat up..must have been in a bad accident cause there glass between the buttons and between the screen and bezel. Had to take it apart and clean it up...there are a few scratches on the screen but barely noticeable...all I need now is my Sirius module!

it's car-part. When you're thre do a search for 2011-2013 Subaru Impreza Radio. There's a shop (google B&R Autowrecking) wanting $175.96 for one and he said he's willing to do $150 + shipping.

I just installed the one without the satellite, if I can score the satellite version ill swap it. not sure if ill ever use satellite though since i've never used it before but its nice to have it if I wanted to. My fiance' infiniti has it but i think she stopped subscription but its nice to have so many different channels.

Yup that was $80 shipped, he told me on the phone $65 for the unit and $15 for shipping. It took about 2-3 days to get it here. i saw very surprised to find one since everyone else had such a hard time finding these with the SAT radio.
