![]() sorry if this is a repost, but not getting any looks in car audio!!!!!
this was my project for the day, and i ran into a few problems....... first post: is that little harness that is behind the radio with 2 wites in is just for gauge illumination, or is it a 12v switched also????i hooked up everything, and when i went to dim lights, the gauge got brighter, and when i turned up the brightness, the gauge got darker.....i used that harness with 1 wire for power, and the other wire for illum ..is that correct? thanks second post: ok i think i got some of this figured out...i hooked up the(omori Gauges)black (ground?)wire to the variable power in that harness and the white wires to the 12v in the harness...and it dims correctly with the dash...but now can i connect the 12v wire from the electronic gauge to the 12v in the harness that i am using for the illumination?? third post: ok....so i now have the 12v from the clock, and the illumination from the harness behind the radio...i am not able to dim the gauges....when i had it hooked up so that i can dim the gauges, the electric temp gauge would not work unless the headlights were on and the dimmer set to brightest.......when i use the other wire in the harness behind the radio, when i dim the interior, the gauges get brighter and vise versa. i used the power from the clock, but used the harness behind the radio for the illumination so that i didd not have to use the illum from the clock and have the gauge lights on all the time....and the ground is to the chassis.... now i remember reading that you can dim the gauges..(except defi and greddy), but is it possible to dim the Omori?? yet still have the gauge work without having to have the headlights lights on? i had no conflicts with my mech boost gauge, and getting it to dim,but thats basically because there in no need for a 12v wire....but i dont want that to dim and not the rest.. thanks..

You can wire it up so that the gauge dims properly using a series of resistors and an opamp - I plan to do this once I hook up my boost gauge (I have had a 52mm Omori electronic boost gauge for over a month now... just haven't gotten around to installing it) |

![]() I didn't look too much into this... but my omori gauges work the same way, no dimming available. According to Omori, the gauges are dim-able. What DrD said may be true, that the problem is Subaru's 12v voltage.
I just found it odd that the clock light was dim-able, but my gauges (which are wired to the clock harness) are not. lastly, all this didn't bother me too much. The gauges are bright enough for me to see at night. And they light up when I turn on my headlights... Good enough for me. But to each his own. |

![]() AFAIK, the dimming problem isn't limited to just Omori gauges. The issue is exactly what DrD said, only one of the leads varies when the gauges are designed to get the dimming signal from both. Yes, goofy, but oh well =/.
