Lol, Subaru is just an SUV company now - no place for an STI.

This really does feel like an 11th hour announcement. Like they've been trying to make the 2.4 work and they just couldn't get the numbers they wanted out of it. Otherwise why not milk the EJ one last time with a final edition?

So much for that Subaru zenith vehicle... Now the closest they have is the BRZ, but it isn't good enough in current trim for that role. But it could be, but I doubt they would turn the wick up that far.

Well GR4 Corolla sounds like the winner already.

Alright Toyota let’s see that GR Corolla, also wouldn’t mind an Audi RS3 too bad we don’t get the hatch here.

The Type RA owners group is laughing as we all can resell our cars for more than we paid. Well except the handful of people who totaled theirs.

What a massively stupid decision when all of Japan except Honda is developing hydrogen tech whether it be combustion or hydrogen electric.

Better buy up those JDM STi parts before they are all gone.

Frankly, I'd prefer the STI become an EV.

I just don't want to wait another 20 years for it.

This was a decision they needed to have made 5 years ago.

At this point if you you want a new performance car then Subaru shouldn't be your top choice.

Kinda sad honestly.

Except Honda? The HFCEV Clarity has been on the market for 14 years. While Honda has denounced hydrogen combustion they aren't giving upon fuel cells yet.

This is horrible news. I was totally invested in the new STI. Have a 12 wrx and was going to slide right into their new platform. Now what….45k or lower on a awd sedan…mid-40s with kid. GR is out….

Smart move by Subaru. Real performance cars now are electric. 0-60 in 2 secs is now the standard benchmark for a performance EV. ICE can no longer compete.

Making it a hybrid would just slow it down.

So where does it leave the FA24? Everyone seemed to agree that it's under-tuned, whether for the legacy, ascent or the WRX - with everyone hoping it'll shine in the STi. Now what?

My guess is we will still get something like a WRX tS with a wing, brakes and better suspension... (maybe STI 6 speed with diffs since that won't require re-engineering?)

But ya, 4-5 years maybe an all-electric STI that is actually fast? I'm OK with that.

It seems like in the past ~20-30 years' time, manufacturers have gone from "We're gonna over-engineer the heck out of this thing (gentleman's agreement)" to "We've forgotten how to make cars that enthusiasts love at an accessible price, so we'll settle for mediocre and blame emissions/the economy/whatever else the passing breeze brings by."

TBH Subaru (or really anyone) hasn't made a car I could truly fall in love with since the mid-late 2000's (07 for Subaru). The VA platform gave me hope with exterior looks I like/can live with, but was a complete letdown in terms of the interior. I find subaru interiors post ~2007 to be absolutely horrendous, and no matter how much I tried to like the GR it has never (and probably will never) grow on me... it's just ugly inside and out. So is the 22 WRX, it looks like a F****^NG Pontiac Aztek. Don't get me started on what I can't stand about the FA engines, or their traction-control nonsense rather than using a real LSD, or the fact they never really developed the EG but opted for the EZ which has very limited / no potential. At least subaru had the decency to call a wagon, a wagon, rather than a "hatchback"... well at least until the GR showed up. What people call hatchbacks these days ought to be a crime.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my hawkeye, and my blobeye too despite all their shortcomings. I also love the bugeye, the 90's LGTs <though both of those seem to get no attention / alot of hate, and I love the GC's as well... but since the mid 2000's they just haven't had "the magic." Every time I work on my wife's 2015, I can't help but think "I hate this stupid thing" or "who thought this was a good idea" and suddenly miss my family member's 07 base in almost every way except mileage.

Days that I'd hoped to never see: MHI doesn't make cars anymore. The M2 CS is a better option than a Supra - and I don't even like BMW. The new Integra is nothing like it's roots. A Cadillac has more things I want than most japanes cars do (6 speed, RWD or AWD, V8 or L6 turbo). The RX Vision / RX9 has been just a tease and the miatas of late are boats compared to old ones. The GTR is basically a meme. In fact Nissan hasn't made a good accessible car since the 90's, save maybe the Z's... but they aren't without their problems. I so desperately want the new Z to not be hot garbage, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. You still couldn't PAY ME to get into a VAG, FCA, Ford, or GM product so that hasn't changed.

Just another example of car companies shifting away from making a drivers car, and toward making an appliance.

"Modern cars - they all look like electric shavers" - Marv, Sin City

Or maybe I'm just getting old? /end rant

Loved my '05 LGT, but so glad I didn't hold out for anything new from Subaru when it broke in '19. Just wasn't feeling the STI those years (and the manual in traffic). Quite happy with my '19 Stinger + jb4. 400+ whp, AWD, decent interior, etc, etc..

Check out a Stinger AWD. As long as you have a decent mechanic - Kia dealers suck for the most part. Not that Subaru dealers are much to write home about in most cases..

Whats left for America? Golf R? This is terrible news as I was going to order one this year to replace my legacy. I was going to do it last year but with all the covid uncertainty wound up not and clearly made a mistake.
