![]() I just installed my HKS SS BOV on my 02 WRX. Other relevant mods include TurboXS FMI, VF30 and I'm running between 14 and 18 lbs of boost. (all necessary fuel and intake mods also)
Concern is that the BOV sounds and feels like it is not releasing pressure consistantly. Instead of one solid rush of air upon release or partial release of throttle - the BOV "stutters." (i.e. instead of one shush it is multiple shushes). When just pulling back on the throttle and this happens you can actually feel the surges in the engine/boost. This happens at anything less than full boost with a quick release of throttle. I don't think this is normal so is it a simple BOV adjustment? If so is the valve too tight or too loose? Or is there a chance I am loosing pressure somewhere else? Sorry if this is a basic question - I'm just learning as I go. Thanks ![]()

![]() Is your HKS bov brand new? If so can you please tell me how many threads are exposed on the adjustment screw, I'm curious to see if my bov is set near the HKS setting. If you loosen the adjust screw all the way, then turn it in again you will notice it will start to touch the spring inside. I have mine set to 1/2 a turn in from the flush setting and no problems.

![]() Kitt - The HKS SS BOV tuned from the mfg. has three threads showing when looking down on the side with the HKS logo.
There is a raised line where the threading starts, then two obvious threads and the third thread is just beyond (1 mm) the outside edge of the lock nut - almost even with it. Hope that helps. To answer my own question - I called HKS tech support and they are great. The sound of the SS BOV is different than other, non-SS BOVs. There is the primary valve (high pitched) and secondary valve (low pitched) that you can hear. With anything less than full boost and release of throttle the SS BOV secondary valve "chatters" to release spurts of pressure, instead of total release, to retained as much pressure as possible during the gear change. |
