Default boost issues

2002 wrx cobb ap tuned stage 2

It started off i was only hitting 5psi, i was missing the restrictor pill. i put one in and now I'm only hitting 10 psi.

I done the following to try and figure this out.
-swapped wastegates
-cleaned MAF
-Checked for leaks
-Loaded the stage 2 HWG (high waste gate map)
-Swapped BCS with one that I'm pretty positive is still good.

I disconnect the vacuum hose to the waste gate and i can hit 15 psi with ease..

what else could the problem be?

the car drives fine, its just pissing me off that i can't hit the target boost!

Did you check the hoses for leaks?

Check the vacuum hose of the ebcs off the inlet tube for any damage. Also make sure that restrictor pill is 1 inche away from the 90 degree elbow off the cold side of the turbo! Not the wastegate if that pill is near the waste gate 2/3's of your pressure is just being sent to the ebcs. If that does not work try pulling the compressor bypass valve off and pressing the piston in. If it is easy to press in that could be your problem. If none of that fixes your problem. Download a map that has a higher wastegate duty cycle map

You could just go to a blocking type soleniod, then find or get a map for that.

id like to stick to the maps from cobb, just because i don't want to pay for a new tune haha.

so when i unhooked the vac line from the waste gate and got normal boost, i assumed bad waste gate. is there something else i could gather from that?

Do you have the right size restrictor pill in the line? You can change boost pressure with different size pills.

I haven't taken anything off. I bought the car from a member with a shop and they put a new motor in it. It runs awesome I'm just not hitting target boost.

So thinking MBC?

The stock unit is a bleed type and they have their pro's and cons but a big con is not being able to run more than say 12-13lbs of boost unless you re-size the pill. Jason is right either go with a blocking type Manual controller (look up the downsides) or go with an electronic controller. Either way pushing more load and more into an untuned portion of the map will lead to more risk. If your running an intake the risk increases as odds are the maf scaling will be even further off.

Suggest getting some parts and getting a roadtune. As spending the money for this will be cheaper than a new motor.

jesse is right on. I have tried everything I know how and countless hours trying to get those stupid stock controlers to boost over 15ish psi with out problems. They just don't handle boost well. The MBC will allow you to use yoru AP with out trying to figure out how to adjust your WG tables. They will both serve your needs just have different positives and negatives.

Well if I went with the MBC I wouldn't exceed the psi that the Cobb map is tuned for. So ~14psi? Maybe 15

I don't want to go above that, because of the tune. I'd like to stick with the AP, since it's safe and I want safe instead of power.

So if I go MBC and stay within the limits of the stage 2 Cobb map..I should be safe right? Because its tuned for that psi but it's just not hitting it. At least that's my understanding, if I have that wrong correct me. I don't want to do something stupid haha.
