Default Spied: Is this the 2018 Ford Mustang Bullitt?

Quote:
A sharp-eyed member of the Mustang6G Forum spotted this dark green Ford Mustang with the ubiquitous five-spoke Torq Thrust-style wheels found on Bullitt-edition Mustangs. This is a current-model Mustang, and it was allegedly part of a commercial video shoot. Ford teased the next-generation Bullitt Mustang when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson filmed an ad for them earlier this year. Since then, there has been a steady stream of new information and speculation about the next-gen Bullitt hitting the internet. Ford also added a nice dark green to the 2017 Ford F-150 that would look perfect on a Bullitt-edition Mustang.

With the movie’s 50th anniversary coming up, it only makes sense to celebrate the film, and car, that helped extend the Mustang’s roots in the American consciousness.

Head over to the Mustang6G Forum for a few more pictures of what is likely the next-gen Bullitt.

Default 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt Unveiled With 475HP And Signature Exhaust

he rumors were true as Ford presented a new generation of its lauded Mustang Bullitt based on the S-550 at the Detroit auto show on Sunday.

Ford fed this 2019 special-edition Mustang a manual transmission, where the gear shifter features a white cue ball knob as a nod to the car that lit up our movie screens 50 years ago.

The new Bullitt is also wearing everything from the Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package, while its upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine pushes down 475 HP and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm) of torque, allowing for a top speed of 163 mph (263 km/h).

Standard equipment includes the leather steering wheel, unique green accent stitching and a 12" all-digital LCD instrument cluster (identical to the one in the 2018 Mustang), although the Bullitt comes with a unique welcome screen that features an image of the car instead of the pony logo.

"This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool," stated Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer. "As a designer, it's my favorite Mustang - devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn't need to scream about anything - it's just cool."

As for why the car sounds the way it does, it's the standard active valve performance exhaust system with new Black NitroPlate exhaust tips that's responsible for the signature burble. The Bullitt also has a new Open Air Induction System and a Shelby GT350 intake manifold with 87 mm throttle bodies and powertrain control module calibration.

With color options, you get to choose between Shadow Black or the classic Dark Highland Green (like in the movie). Then there are the subtle chrome accents (around the grille and front windows), 19" wheels, red-painted Brembo brakes and the bespoke front grille. Put it all together and you'll find that the 2019 car does a good job paying tribute to the original.

"When making a Bullitt, there are certain things it absolutely must have," added Carl Widmann, Mustang chief engineer. "It has to have the right attitude, it has to be unique in some way from the Mustang GT, and more than anything, it has to be bad ass."

Customers are limited to just three factory options, the MagneRide semi-active suspension system, the black leather-trimmed Recaro seats and the Electronics Package, which includes sat-nav, driver memory seats and mirrors, an upgraded sound system and Blind Spot Information with Cross-Traffic Alert.

To sum it up, the 475 HP Bullitt Mustang is 8 mph (13 km/h) faster than the 460 HP Mustang GT, has bespoke visuals inside and out and sounds a lot more intimidating.

I just spent 30 minutes on YouTube watching the launch and some stories about the original movie car, which is now out of hiding. This may be the one for me.....

I’ve always been a fan of the tribute cars and my college buddy has one. My boys like Mustangs. This may be the one for me.....

This version looks so good, but still brings the tech, sound and rediculous performance. This may be the one for me.......

I wonder if the market adjustment will be out of control.

It must hurt all the closet Honda fanboys that the horsepower per liter king is now... Ford?

Granted, it only took them 20 years of development on the 4V modular/coyote engine, but here we are.

Nothing Honda currently sells is, either...

Note that I don't really give a crap about this metric, but I grew up in the era where hp/l was the "most important" metric in the minds of a certain class of car enthusiast. Don't hear much about it anymore, though. Funny that...

hp/L isn't as important as hp/engine weight or on the next level, hp&tq/curb weight; I remember back in college someone bragging about how their engine had the best (at the time) hp/L I was driving a warmed over Fox mustang (300rwhp) and I just laughed. That car had a pretty bad hp/L score, but it was roughly 10lb:1hp with me in it, and that was more important to me.

when GM started making Aluminum blocked LS motors, the hp/engine weight became a metric I started paying attention to; pulling weight off the front end of your LRA car does nothing but good IMHO.

I disagree a tad SVT. HP/Liter to me is a bragging right. To extract copious amounts of power out of a tiny displacement shows they know how to produce an efficient engine. Any ham fisted garage mechanic can make 500 HP out of a 6.6 liter engine. Hell I did it when I was 18 years old. Did not take much effort. But to make 500 HP out of a 3 liter engine takes some mental marbles and some technology. I think of HP/Liter as an engineers bragging tool. In a practical sense it means a bit less if your 2 liter engine is physically larger than a V8 on the outside, but I find it a very useful metric none the less.

I do agree it's a bragging right; it's value to me however is low without considering the entire package - it is also easier to get a better HP/L ratio on a smaller displacement engine than out of a large displacement engine (think motorcycles); I already stated the Windsor series of engines had an abysmal HP/L ratio; and when you push a OHV 5.0 north of 400hp the block cracks in two.

The FPC voodoo is beautiful 526HP/5.2L is a ratio I'd love to have at my disposal and it's much larger than a sewing machine so, yeah, very brag worthy; however, 3,800lbs/526hp... not so much; it's a great ratio 7.3lbs/1HP, but that's a lot of curb weight to throw around. I'd rather have something 80% the weight with 80% the power (3,052lbs/415hp sounds like a lot of fun to me). Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't kick one out of my driveway, and if that kind of car was in the cards for me right now, I'd own one; In my opinion it's the best option on the market right now.

You show me a 200hp/200tq 2.0L in a 2,000lb car and I become visibly excited; you show me a 200hp/140tq 2.0l in a 3,000lb car and I become a sad banana.

just stating to state it: as a rule the HP/L ratio for me also applies only to NA motors; once you mix in forced induction you are "cheating" and the HP/engine weight becomes a more realistic ratio.

Rumors I’m hearing are both $45k and $55k. I wonder if both are true and $45k is with no options and $55k if you add mag shocks, navigation and recaros.

That kind of slots between a GT and a GT350 so it seems reasonable.

I love the color but if it's going to cost considerably more than a fully optioned GT I would just get the GT.
