A little over a week ago, I made the 7 hour trip from the U.P. of Michigan down to Joliet to pick up my second STI. (Ex-wife made me get rid of the first one, new fiance wanted me to get one :-) ) When I arrived I checked the car out, and test drove. It seemed to idle a little rough but ran strong ( maybe it was 7 hrs of driving in my FJ that made it feel that way) Went inside and got asked to pay another $300 for doc fee etc and I told them that I was told to bring a check for $19,600 and that was all I needed. I didnt end up paying the extra $300 but that turned out to be the least of my worries. I was offered a key replacement program because there was only 1 key for the car, never a warranty. I drove the car home 7 hours in freezing rain and snow with my buddy driving my FJ behind me, we made it home just fine. The next day my fiance takes it for the day and calls me at work and tells me the check engine light came on and the cruise wouldnt work (limp mode) I got home and checked it out and it was still running strong but the idle was terrible. I brought it to advanced auto and used the code reader there and found I had a misfire on 2 cylinders. I got plugs hoping they were never changed in its past 80k miles and tried putting sea foam and heet in the tank with a fresh tank of premium gas. When changing plugs I did a compression test and had a dead cylinder. The following day it went to the only Subie wizard I know up here. He called me the next day and said it didnt look good when he took a peek with the bore scope and said one of the exhaust valves was burnt. He pulled the motor and found that the valve had about 1/4 of it burnt off and that in another cylinder it looked like something was hitting the top of the piston. He then pulled the oil pan and found metal chunks, some being about a 1/2" in size. I called Bill Jacobs Subaru and was told they will do nothing, talked to the manager and he didnt seem to care much at all and said it was a used car and ran fine when I left and furthermore it was sold as is. And furthermore he stated that I was offered a warranty and I declined. After days of calling and not being able to get a hold of the manager or any one else that might have power on the matter and a ridiculous amount of phone tag with another guy there I talked to a manager of some sort and he told me the same things I heard before and said the only thing he might do for me is sell me parts for cost to fix it. I personally do not want to give them any more money. They are a terrible place to deal with and wouldnt recommend my worst enemy or even my ex-wife to even buy a wheel barrow from these people.
