subaru recall for bugeyes... campaign WVD-14

just got a letter in the mail... campaign wvd-14, tailgate struts are not properly tightend causing stress and abnormal wear to the stuts and tailgate causing it to close unexpectedly, and can potentially decapitate you and or your loved ones... i added that last part. im assuming this is for the wagons

It's for the wagons if it mentions tailgates...... one of or both of those comming off can make for a bad day......

they need one for the sedan.....it should read:

stock driveline blows.

solution: come in for an sti ej25 & 6spd swap

I'd rather have a fix for the raw fuel smell in cold weather. Much more safety related if you ask me.

Yeah...but not a "freebie" like this one. I have heard of people getting it done by the dealer but it seems to be a case by case basis.

Well, it is/was a freebie under the 5/60 warranty. There is an official thingie from Subaru about it, bit its up to the dealer whether or not they cover it out of warranty unfortunately.

yea i got this too. i got everything mentioned in this thread minus the good stuff. i checked mine and they dont seem loose. although that might be the slight rattle i hear going over bumps.

just go to the dealer and tell them you are afraid your engine is going to catch fire due to the issue which is a very well documented issue with these cars. They will likely fix it. Mine was under warranty when they fixed it, but it was heavily modified and they still fixed it for free (plus a little bit since they had a hard time getting my top mount back on. LOL

I ordered the kit for the rear gate and was gonna have the recall performed at the Subaru dealer. They told me they couldn't do it and I would have to go to a bodyshop. So I just did it myself. Just wondering is there anyway I can get my money back for the parts should I call Subaru America or is it a waste of time. Thanks

Had mine since 2002. Replaced the struts probably 7 years ago since that is something that wears.
