Thanks guys. I'm surprised to see so many people call the Bilsteins harsh, but I guess it's all in the valving. I always thought they were pretty mellow on the various Mustangs I've run, at least compared to stock valved Koni DAs - those were pretty crappy on the street.

It's been a long time since I've driven a stock STi. I should check out one of the new 2020s. I really want one of the series whites. I'm not sure I'll be able to make it happen before they're all gone though.

i have no experience with the oem bilsteins on these special editions, but the aftermarket bilstein b6's are not harsh at all. i had a set on my 2016 wrx and they rode better than stock.

Since there is talk about lap times and that is essentially the purpose of this car. Do you think the whole narrative around the S209 changes if C&D gets like a 2:58 out of the car at Lightning Lap next year?

I don't think it will do that well.. but even if it does, I don't think it matters for a track car.

That's still significantly behind other LL2 cars like the Mustang GT PP2 that can be had for $50k or less (2:53.8).
https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...ning-lap-2018/

The 2020 GT350 should be a second or two faster than the PP2 and starts around $60k. And then there's the upcoming C8 in the same price range.

If you remove the arbitrary $65k limit on the LL2 cars, the Camaro ZL1 1LE is way ahead of the pack (2:45.0) and can be had for a little over $70k. The Camaro & Mustang dominate the lightning lap leader board in terms of performance per dollar.

Even if the S209 is the fastest 4 door LL2 car, does that matter for a track car?

I just paid $49K for a 2018 GT350 that had 1400 miles on the odometer and 70% of the bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty left. This is why the S209 just doesn’t register in my brain. People will say it’s not an all weather car like the S209 but with the cost savings you could easily go buy a second vehicle just for bad weather days. I already have a JL Wrangler so I’m not worried about weather.

You can never compare a one off used car purchase to a brand new car. It's not something that anyone can get specifically (one off deals) or even want. It's a personal choice to buy used and accepting what ever issues comes with it to save a few bucks. Sometimes the used car doesn't pay off.

I don't disagree. But, buying a MY2018 vehicle that is still under bumper-to-bumper factory warranty is not a huge risk in terms of issues.
Yes, the remaining bumper-to-bumper warranty is less than 3 years, but, as long as there's some warranty left, any and all issues would be addressed by the manufacturer.
I'd say a handful of track days should reveal most issues, if any

And what about the inevitable warranty disclaimer from Subaru?

From their Class Action Settlement:
Quote:
11. “Excluding Conditions” means the following vehicle conditions or modifications, which, if currently present or previously existing in the vehicle, exclude the Settlement Class Vehicle from receiving a repair under the terms of the Extended Warranty:
...
t. Max Data well over set limits. (e.g., excessive RPMs caused by missshift);
u. Evidence of non-sanctioned drag racing and or street racing from a “stop” or a “rolling start”;
v. Evidence of any Excluding Conditions having been removed prior to arrival at retailer;
x. Evidence of use in a competitive automotive event other than for static display only.

I've also contributed more information about the S209 to this thread than just about anyone else. What's your point?

Subaru's warranty doesn't support tracking their cars (even in stock form) whereas some other manufacturers allow it. Ford is one of the manufacturers that supports it.

You have contribute a lot of hate to the S209. So either you love this car and feel rejected you can't have/afford one, or you are just a hater.

Good, I hope you move on from this thread. Because you don't add anything of value other than constant hate.

You're absolutely right. I should stop sharing S209 specs, reviews, lap times, dyno comparisons, part numbers, sale prices, photos, etc.

The constant hating is unnecessary. You make your point and move on, because a ton of other people don't think or feel the same way about the S209 and actually likes it. Also, the people that's been in the Subaru game for a long time, should know its short comings and how to deal with it. All the hate I've seen on this thread is subjective garbage and adds little. Especially when they don't even own the car.

Quit being a snowflake and take it like a man.

If someone hates what you like, so what. They are free to say what they want and so are you.
