Default Would safe / limp mode cause the speedometer to stop working?

had this happen this weekend, trying to trouble shoot the problem. does anyone know if safe / limp mode cause the speedometer to stop working?

^^^ yup. so really, a inop speedo could cause limp mode... and for sure a cel on an 04 wrx

just for future member reference

CEL code came up p0502 speed sensor

the fix was 2 fuses
one in the fuse box underneath the hood (yellow)
one in the fuse box underneath the dash (blue)
