Anyone have any experience with mods at either West Houston or Gillman Subaru? I plan to ask WH Subaru this weekend during my 30 day service appointment but any advice is appreciated. I really hope they don't give me trouble about getting an AP... I am not really digging the stock map in this car.

Also, just hit my 1K miles last week! Too bad I've been too sick to enjoy it (literally caught a cold the same day). Looking forward to meeting people on here!
Nice! I know Gillman subaru is pretty involved with the car community (they are sponsors here) so I would think they will be ok with some mods.

I am personally not doing any engine mods for a while for warranty sakes but I heard people so far are pretty happy with their Cobb APs. I would maybe ask both dealerships and see what they say.

Gillman is great. West Houston not so much...

They treated my family kind crappy during their last service appointment there. Needless to say I service their vehicles myself at this point when I have time, or when they can't make it to Gillman.

Professionally on the parts side of West Houston Subaru, I had a huge blowout with the service manager. At the time I was a commercial customer (I managed an ran a shop before I went back to school) because they a)sent me the wrong part more than a few times, b) When they finally did send me the right part it was an open box, and there were pieces missing. needless to say the parts manager was not very professional. He lost the business from all three of our stores. Gillman FTW. lol

I purchase my wrx at Gillman South and they seem to be really good both professionally and when it comes to the car community.
When I was looking for my wrx, I went to Gillman North and they basically dissed me when I asked to see the new wrx (at the time I was comparing to the 13) and West Subaru didn't even bother to help me at all. Probably because I look/am young? I don't know but I knew I wasn't going to do business with people like that.

Gillman South quickly helped me and handed me the keys to test drive one and I went back the next weekend to purchase. Besides the wait time doing paperwork and etc, it was a pleasant purchase with them plus they were quick to ask me if I had any mods planned and to come out to the Big 6 event they were having back on october. I would definitely go to them for warranty/etc even tho the other two dealers are closer to me

Yeah, kinda wish I got my car at Gillman. Went with WH because it was closer and the reviews on Google seemed good. But tbh the experience was pretty lousy and I think I was also initially written off for being young. Salesman said he would be there the following day and then took the day off, go figure. Also, apparently their Saturday service appointments are reserved for oil changes and they 'might' fit other cases in otherwise they keep the car until Monday. I would rather not take the time off work for a service appointment...

I took my car to Gillman South instead (on a Saturday too) because my clutch seemed stiff and clicks when pushed in. Wasn't sure if it was normal because my RX8 clutch felt a lot softer but they let me sit in a new (still had the plastic wrap) WRX and it also clicked. Seemed a lot softer than mine, though. At any rate I'm not a huge fan of the notchy and stiff feel of shifting in this car but at least I know it's somewhat normal. They were super nice about it too even though they were really busy that day. I will most likely get all my servicing done there from now on. I feel bad I didn't buy the car there in the first place! At least WH had the exact model and color I wanted with the short throw so I am happy.

I'll probably call both to see what their stance is on the AP.

If anyone in DFW is looking for a '15, Hiley over on the west side of Fort Worth had at least 11 of them on the lot when I was there earlier today getting my oil changed. No STI's though, just a mix of base/premium/limited in every color except the Lightning Red and Galaxy Blue.

As most people would expect, WH Subaru said an AP would pretty much guarantee a claim denial if an engine component failed. Sigh. I really want that stage 1 Cobb map. The manager also mentioned that in the very recent past Subaru has developed much better tools to be able to see what was actually on the ECU when it was flashed because of too many "can't prove it was actually running an after market map" claims. Whether or not that's true it still concerns me.

I told him it was my DD and had no intention of tracking or racing the car - just wanted Stage 1 for the smoother driving experience. He said it is possible to buy a second ECU and have it on hand in case something goes wrong with the flashed one. Not sure how that works but would be interested in researching if that is actually possible. He said they run about $675 but still no guarantee of warranty coverage...

Its a Subaru... It won't explode on you unless you treat it like crap. The maps from Cobb are not going to cause problems with the engine. They have been tried and tested multiple times on multiple cars. If you honestly feel your car is going to explode any second, you probably should get a different car anyways.

After saying that if you are extremely tight on cash and can't afford to repair basic things like suspension or axles then I wouldn't mod your car. Stick to exterior stuff and lighting.

Yeah I agree, it's just one of those "what if" worst case scenarios for me knowing my luck. Since this is the first car I've bought new I will probably wait a year or two before grabbing the AP as the end of warranty draws closer.

At any rate the car is great! It's nice to actually care about keeping it clean and looking good. First purchase will probably be the footwell illumination kit in red. Tried asking about the spoiler lip on the premiums but I dont't think it's for sale yet.

Yeah, if you are worried about the warranty, don't do the ap. Rather be safe than sorry.

I really wanted to get the illumination kit but the price tag seems a bit much for just a few leds. If you do get it, def post some photos

I'm kinda planning on making my own kit a little more custom than just front footwells

I heard the dealer does a very bad job at installing the LED footwell kits. There is not a plug and play option. They are actually splicing it in just like you or me would do.

Check into it but you might be better off just buying the LED strips and the auto store and wiring yourself.

I want to get the Red, I just wanted to see where the Dealer put them and what they connected into.

Here is the guide to installing the illumination kit if you want to look at it. Dealer would probably follow the exact same steps

Illumination Kit Guide

The kit itself is nothing fancy but if you aren't comfortable with soldering and electrical stuff, the kit is the way to go. Otherwise you can definitely build one yourself

Got my WRX from Gillman on 45. I had the same talk about the AP, although they did not say anything about the second ECU option. I figure I will wait until I see motor builds become more frequent and then go all out. So if I pop my motor I know I can get a build done by someone reputable.

Got mine at Gillman on the SW tollway. It was a good sales experience and no real complaints. I'm in the Clear Lake area and have seen at least one more 2015 WRX at JSC.

I got my WRX from Brandon in McKinney.

I have a question. When I zero my odo, the AVG MPG does not reset. The one that includes "ODO" in the display. Have I got something set wrong, am I looking at the wrong thing, or is it broken?

That's your lifetime AVG MPG. You can reset it in the MFD settings, but I don't remember exactly how and when you do it asks you several times to verify that you want to reset it. Apparently it isn't something that Subaru thinks you should be resetting often.

I was on the fence between replacing my bugeye with either a GTI or WRX. I found a great deal on the white example below, so I'm back in a Subie. Base model with Popular Package #1, All Weather Floor Mats, and STI Short Shifter. Big thanks to my salesman Andy, and finance manager Ryan at Subaru of Clear Lake. They made the buying process very smooth, and it's a very nice clean new facility. Also, they have a pretty health inventory of WRXs and STIs.

Now, just gotta add some tint for summer.
