Default Installing fan switch

I am trying to install additional fan switch control to turn on the radiator fan sooner. The stock fan turned on at 205ºF, I want it to turn on at 180ºF. Anyway, everything is set and ready to go. I found the wire that drive the two fan 1 relays, and I got an auxilary temp switch hook up to the radiator and it is working. My concern is how the ECU send out the signal to switch on the fan relays. Anyone know if the ECU send the signal to the fan relays by turn on another set of (mini) relays, or if the ECU switch the fan relay directly by its interal circuit? The reason is if the ECU switches on the fan relays by another relay(s) then it is ok to apply power to override the ECU control of the fan relay. Otherwise, I need to think of something else. Please help, I am one connection away from lower engine temp.

THIS IS JUST A GUESS

i really doubt the ecu turn on the fan directly as the ecu would need a hefty IC to handle the inrush current from the relay coil. my guess is that it turns on an IC which turns on the relay.....OR, the fan is not control by the ecu at all......it is triggered on the the coolant temp sensor

take your pick

Also keep in mind that if you did not change your thermostat, you won't get much cooler. You'll end up running the fans all of the time, or the thermostat will not open...

Fan is controled by ECU.

you can get HKS fan controler to do this job. I believe around $120.

It controls 2 fans main and sub fans by setting temperature independently

Why do you want to turn on your fan so low? Definately not needed at all, and 210 is still well within the range for the car to be at water temp wise.

NPG+, PWR, zerosport thermo, and Hayden switch later, I can typically run a good 2,3 more degrees of timing before coming close to det (keeping the heat out of the heads)

Plus.. the consistency of performance is 100%

I bought the PWR from hypnotic performance (vendor on this board), and I got the hayden sender from my local pimp boyz, vato zone will have it as well.

I'll have the full DIY and parts list by late tommorow morning, or I'll get ambitious and do it today after work.

Sorry to bring this post from the dead but I will be driving from Dallas to Phoenix next month and thought this may be a good thing to do. Especially when I drive through the desert. Jorge, I can't find your DIY documentation here or in your website. I'd like to know the wiring instructions and I will be all set

So if I just wanted to hook up a manual switch and not the Hayden unit, I just need to feed the middle tab of the relay 12 volts? Or is it like most other cars and a just need to switch a ground on the relay?

The electrical wiring is easy for anyone who's worked with relays. Your using the thermostat switch to trigger GROUND on your relay. You'll be feeding 12 volts from your relay directly into your relay box on the driver strut tower. The relay closest to the washer bottle, and the 3rd one over (skipping one in between) are the fan relays. When you remove the relay you'll notice there is a horizontal contact near the center of the relay. That is the one you'll be feeding 12 volts to. You'll be wiring up both relays, center contact to receive 12 volts from the 30AMP your wiring in. This way, when the Hayden triggers, the fans come on, but you've not affected the computers ability to turn those fans on for AC, or as a failsafe to something happening with the Hayden's relay.
Hope that helps
