Default New Clutch Soft or Engagement Point Off?

First off, apologies for any incorrect terminology, but I'm a super newb trying to figure out if I'm dealing with a repair issue or a me issue.

Had the transmission rebuilt on my '03 WRX and the clutch replaced along with it, and when I got the car back the clutch immediately felt "soft". Looped back to the shop and they're like 'oh that's pretty normal, all new lubricated parts, etc'. That all seems in line with what I'm seeing online. The weird part is it still doesn't feel like it's engaging(?) correctly.

Previously on a level surface I'd be able to slowly let the clutch out in first or reverse and it'd engage and the car would move slowly in the respective direction. Now the car seems to shudder like it's about to stall out if I attempt to put it into first or reverse with out giving it some throttle.

If this is something I have to get used to that's fine, but it feels off to me. If anyone can give any guidance it'd be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Same thing happened to me, turns out the trans cross member was bent and kind of twisted. It’s worth checking out on your car

Thanks! I guess I'll take it back and see what they say.
