I'll share my weekend excursion with my car:
1) Changed my oil for the first time with the car. 2) Located the annoying power steering leak (turned out to be a hose hidden above the subframe), put a new clamp on it...making the leak 10x worse and unfortunately the dealership and all parts stores were closed. So in the morning I purchased a new hose and fixed the leak, then bleed the system. 3) Swapped my ugly TR (impreza seats) for wrx cloth seats. I was told they were 06 seats so I went in thinking the swap would be plug and play...but they were 04-05 seats (my fault for not looking under my 06 seats to match the wiring with the swap seats). But I swapped the cushions on the seat bases & the seat backs, which was extremely simple and now I'm enjoying a more comfortable ride with no airbag lights

Yesterday I swapped out the Engine Air filter because the thing was filled with bugs and leaves and crap.
Dealership wanted to charge $37 bucks to do this for me. I said "no". I did mine for $14 bucks (OEM) and ten minutes of labor. |

Sold my 2017 WRX STI for a stock 2014 WRX STI Hatchback with 20k miles over the weekend.
Ending up talking the dealer down $4,650 from invoice after a significant trade-in. Feeling inspired to write up a "how to bargain at the dealer" article as a result. |

That's pretty good. I talked the dealer down just over 3k when I purchased my 2017 WRX Premium a week ago.

What made you want to get a '14? Needed/preferred the hatch more?

The third generation of WRX STI is what I remember the most from my rally exposure. Things like watching him jump 269 feet at Red Bull No Limits on NYE, setting the Mt. Washington Hillclimb record, or dominating in rally during the 2008 era. That body style was just what I was used to seeing. I'm a fairly active guy, so buying a hatchback just seemed to be an obvious, practical choice with the things I like to do. Hockey bags, bikes, boxes, etc. I just saw added utility with the extra space of a hatch. I bought a 2012 WRX Hatchback because it fit my income better at the time and frankly, there weren't any new WRX STI hatches on the market in Maryland. To make a long story short, I ended up trading the 2012 WRX for the 2017 WRX STI after my career developed a few years later. Every time I drove that wing around and saw a hatchback, a part of me longed for the hatch again. Don't get me wrong, the performance of the WRX STI is fantastic, but something felt incomplete. I got my 2017 WRX last year but I've always wanted/preferred the hatch body style more. Since 2014 was the last year that they made it, it seems that demand is high and so are second-hand prices. Most hatches I found near me with somewhat-low mileage and in good shape were going for $24K, give or take a few grand. In the end I decided to just spend a few thousand more and get a brand new model. I lost the hatch and the rumble but the peace of mind of having a brand new car was worth it to me since I can be positive that nobody has beat or abused it. The warranty is nice too - my water pump failed after just 11.5K miles on it and it's actually at the dealer getting fixed right now. Every time I see a WRB hatch it still makes me want one, but I'm pretty happy with my decision. |

I had a 2012 WRX (EJ25), vs your 15+ WRX which was the introduction of the FA20 engine. One thing you'll read about is that the torque comes on earlier with the FA20 and turbo lag is not quite as bad. Now with the STI, it still uses the same EJ engine, so your power is going to come more in the mid-range vs low-range to the FA. A lot of people like the new 15+ WRXs for this reason and you can buy other things to make it rival the STI. More on the differences between 3rd and 4th gen WRXs here: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=2622312 |

I was asking about differences in the stis. But thanks for the refresher! All the reasons stated in the thread-link are exactly why I went with a 16 wrx instead of previous gen. I'm just curious of what he thinks of the new gen vs older gen in terms of dd and handling. |

Hmm,
Recently started to notice some hesitation and a massive drop in MPG- Looks like the engine air filter is clogged. So replaced that and the Cabin air filter which was just as filthy and for an allergy suffer like me. Should have replaced this a long time ago. |

$128 shipped to socal from taiwan. paint match was good. color matches. the clearcoat left a little to be desired. i wax the crap out of it because the clearcoat seemed thin. if the subispeed has an immaculate finish, it may be worth it. i wasn't sure if i wanted to keep this, hence cheaping out. i'm happy with it though. more concerned with the dent my neighbor put in my door

Finally got time to open up my base headlights and paint the insides black. It's amazing how something so simple makes a huge difference in the look.

Finally got around to wrapping the entire intercoolpiping, even the pipes under the car, just cause I had a bunch of extra... I tape the top half of the intake manifold, wish I could wrap it fully but wasnt possible. So, its for looks and hopefully it does a little.
Used the DEI Tape. Expensive, but def works thank you sir Last edited by subarumod; 06-20-2017 at 10:07 PM. |
