Ok relax you 2, let's get back to the topic at hand. It's only in its second year and subaru is still being kept alive with the forester, outback, and crosstrek. Due to the supply chain crunch and a focus on introducing electrification to the lineup, they may simply be waiting on the regular refresh cycle at the moment. The money for R&D is slim and they have to spread those funds wisely. And don't forget, they are still fighting overall emissions for the brand as a whole

Well they made some very good improvements from 2004 to 2005.

Radio in 2005 was newer
Climate control knobs were newer
Steering wheel
5x100 was dropped in favor of 5x114.3
The rear quarter panel/wheel arch was also different (it's the easiest way to determine a 2004 from 2005)

Then let's not forget the Hawkeye and the nose change, aerofoil above the rear window, the rear diffuser and an updated 2nd gear so you can hit 60 in second for 2006.

Why would there be a refresh ? The car was just released. I am sure we will see the usual facelift in 2-3 years, perhaps few tweaks here and there but an "emergency facelift"....

I honestly don't think Subaru has the wiggle room Federal Govt Negotiation wise and/or money wise. I think it would more worth taking to the bank, a refresh happening right before or with the reintroduction of the STI. (Before being like 1-1.5 yrs before). 2015-2017's were the same (I think - Predominantly), then there were some improvements on the 2018 along with special editions like that Lighter Blue one that I wanted bad (Series Grey?). So... Probably a 25' or 26' Refresh is likely. 2024 refresh, that would be nice Probably will see a couple special editions no doubt.

WRX kept the 5x100 until the 2015 model.

STI did swap from 5x100 to 5x114 in 2005.

so 2008 was a whole new chassis for the WRX, but they kept the 2.5l motor with the td04, 2009 they put a VF52 turbo on the WRX, which took it from a 224hp motor to a 265hp motor. suspension updates to make it stiffer, the widebody fenders from the STI were now on the WRX as well.

that was a HUGE update from one year to the next that corresponded with a complete chassis update, not just a standard year to year changes.

I was simply stating the tweaks, physical/mechanical done to the GD STI. And that there is nothing preventing Subaru from doing the same to the 2022 WRX. Bring on the "Times were different then BS replies."

I am very aware of the hatchback chassis change, loved the hatch design, hated the lousy seats (STI) and cheesy front dash (STI).

ah. sorry, I didn't get that you were only referencing the STI changes, it's worth pointing out that the 2004 didn't even come with a radio.

I was responding to samagon. He said 2009 got the STI widebody.

The 2009 WRX and 2010 WRX were not widebody (sedan nor hatch). The 2011, which I owned, was the year they gained the STI widebody.

The Subaru WRX returns for 2023 without any significant changes. Subaru tells us they’ve added rear-seat head restraints for all three seating positions and have enlarged those same restraints to comply with safety standards that mitigate whiplash in case of an accident.
